Del's Build: SLC IR/8

Finally got it weighed, guessing 1/4 to 1/2 tank.

Your build is beautiful!
What is the resolution of that scale? If it's 100 lbs, your car could be 98 pounds lighter ( or heavier)...

More I drive the car, more I realize the touch buttons for the volume are kind of aggravating to use when out driving. Not horrible, but a knob would be nice so been looking around for something I liked with a knob.
Years ago, I put a major manufacturer head unit in my car that had up/down volume buttons instead of a knob. Haven't made that mistake since.

Live and learn, I'll stick with a knob from here on out.

I'm not sure, I've heard several different increments for CAT scales. My best guess is they may over shoot the weight so driver's don't get in trouble since it's a big deal if they are over. I plan to weigh the Audi for kicks and will ask when I go pay.

Interesting info on CAT scales here:

That's pretty interesting, great find! Looks like CAT scales are 20# increments and lower the weight the more uncertain the accuracy. I'm still curious for an exact weight of the SLC, but just glad to know about what my weight is when people ask me.

Got back on my daughter's ride-on to get it finished for her 1st bday in a couple of weeks

Swapped out the retrofitted OEM Elise tails for a set of GRP V3 (just released) tails yesterday. They offer red and smoked, I went smoke since they would blend well with Grigio Telesto. I wired them up so all 4 are running & brake lights, outside tails have inner amber signal halos and the inside tails are white reverse halos.

Changed the whole rear look of the car, the quality of them is top notch. I'll have to get some outside pictures next time I pull the car out.

Night pictures are hard to capture the true, bold red and how they look in person.

Great looking lights. Do they have DOT markings on the lens? Can you share the outside dimensions of them.

Back on the pointless front signal shroud design. To refresh, I had 2 choices of projector lens to use. Generic ones from China or steal some from some mini H4 projectors. When I put them both on paper, I realized the generic ones from China have too much of a dome for my preference so that made up my mind and designed a shroud/holder around the mini H4 lenses. Multi-step inside the shroud so the lens, lens holder and LED board will fit in their own location inside the shroud. Since I can only print in PLA, I have to scale by stuff up by 0.04% due to PLA flattening out. I'm waiting on a 2nd set of LED boards identical to ones I'm using now to test fit in the shroud, then I can make any changes needed and send the STL off to Shapeways to print in same media my emblems are made of so it'll be easy prep work before I spray them body color (or maybe gloss black). $12.12 per print, which I think is reasonable.

I have no clue how the light output will be, although I hope it will be more focused and seen easier than setup I already have. Brighter isn't needed, just a bonus as I just want signals that are less generic looking (and I'm bored). Realizing it may be getting time to update my 3-4yr old 3D printer (cheapest one available back then) since I am feeling more comfortable drawing in 3D in AutoCAD. I also have some ideas on things I want to design for my car and better printer would be nice since they're larger objects and probably won't be cheap to print at Shapeways.

Ended up getting a dedicated extension cord for the SLC since I use my other regularly. While I wanted an orange one for obvious reasons, went with a bright green in hopes I'll notice it and won't forget to unplug it before pulling it outside.

I don't think I posted this, but through the vent on the nose I can see the onboard charger indicator LED.

Wife finally got me to move daughter's little 720S out to the shop since it's about finished. Since I was cleaning the shop and had the SLC pulled out, had to get a few pics because I thought it was cool looking. Had alot of fun doing this and with it being inside the house, I was able to work on it here and there when I had a few minutes to myself. Can't wait to build the next toy and eventually a CRF50.

720S mods:
Lowered ~1.5"
Motorcycle LED under-body kit since all kids like lights
Re-purposed wife's Samsung S7 to replace fake screen in car, runs CarWebGuru like SLC
Hardwired USB port and ran microUSB to dash to keep phone charged
Master cutoff switch
3D printed and painted turbos with K&N filters
Plasti-Dipped wheels with leftovers from SLC wheels
Painted rotors dark gray
Morimoto Fade-On LED drivers for DRLs
3/4" smoked red LED indicators in tailpipes wired to TrickFlasher so they flash when throttle is pressed
Colored matched some vinyl to body for random decals. License plate, Brembo decals and remote control
5pt universal highchair harness that will replace lap belt since she is still on small side for it
