Is the right to bear arms outdated.

Evidently you failed to detect the sarcasm...

'Not so sure about that:

"You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass." - Adm. Yamamoto

(And, before you quote "FactCheck", Jim C., whether he actually said it or not [and there's no "proof" he didn't. Gen. Douglas M.'s staff says he DID, "Professor" Goldstein says he didn't...simply because HE can't find record of it, evidently], the point made is still valid regardless.)

In any event, history has proven that crooks always have, and always will get whatever weaponry they want - laws or no laws. That said, as long as doing so WILL NOT create more hoops for law-abiding people to jump through, I'm not adverse to seeing crook-enabling "loopholes" closed. But, laws, say, forbiding the sale of, gifting, or bequeathing of a firearm to a friend, heir/family member by law-abiding people (at least one such law has already been proposed) are pure bull pucky.

Larry I'll quote Nick Brough :)

If a military force does ever invade or attack the US please fell free to fire your rifles at any tanks, bombers, fighter planes atomic bombs etc they send your way.

I wish you luck and take hope from the fact it is now a foreign force you want to repel and not Obama ;)

Uuuuuuuuuh huh. If atomic bombs were launched - our retaliation would have vaporized their military as well as pretty much their whole country...so who would do the invading...and with what? Assuming 'their' invasion force survived, one would have to assume we had military personnel and equipment that survived too....and if 'their' force landed here, we'd be right back to the blades of grass and our own military, wouldn't we.

(If one were to seriously address a hypothetical of the sort you've concocted, he'd sending himself on a fool's errand.)

Now, what will you do when 'Spot' gets whacked?

Nick a biscuit would have that lab leave his post :)

Bob

Thanks Bob you have given his weakness away, I'm going to have to get an uzi 9mm now :(

One shot dispatches 'Spot'.

What do you do now?

Larry,

We are getting into what have the Romans ever done for us territory again, you have made your mind up and nothing I say or evidence I or anyone else gives will change that.

You asked me to provide "an effective defense for an 'unarmed' home owner" I did, even others have agreed. Then it's "one shot dispatches spot" . One shot also dispatches an armed defender in fact the odds are heavily against you.

"To put it in starker terms, the FBI’s Crime in the United States report for 1998 found that for every instance that a civilian used a handgun to kill in self-defense, 50 people lost their lives in handgun homicides."

Believe me "spot" is a dam site faster than I would be in drawing and firing a gun in a state of half sleep even if I had one, but he could well buy me the time needed in his sacrifice.

I suspect he would be a dam site faster than you as well, there again maybe you wear your underpants on the outside off your trousers :)

From FAIR who again profess to be independent

"The one true thing that we know about the gun debate here at home, that neither side has a monopoly on the truth, or even the facts, because the facts can be so hard to establish. One side has studies linking gun ownership with violent death. But correlation is not causation.

The other side has research showing when people are allowed to carry concealed weapons, violent crimes slow down. Yet newer studies cast doubt on that conclusion."

I will leave you with some of Spots friends in action

'Spot' is your only plan. 'Got it.

Can Spot address 2 or 3 perps in a matter of a few seconds?

(But, from the looks of your own little guy, 'twould appear the only reason he's ever charged at somebody was to get petted. Am I wrong?)

Yes you are wrong,

I think dogs can be a huge benefit/deterrent. The typical thug/burglar etc, relies heavily upon his ability to intimidate and knows that most law abiding people, are easily afraid. Dogs usually do not suffer from an ability to evaluate, or pause to think about their options, when being attacked or threatened. The burglar knows this.

Just like the school bully, if you hit him first, without fearing that he will hit you back, I always found, they were usually pussies. Either be the dog, or get a dog, at least then, you have most likely diverted 99% of potential criminals onto some other, easier target, as they are all pussies deep down. If not, they would hit harder targets for greater potential reward than just a Rolex or pearl necklace, with a value down the pub, of just a few quid.

Great information and very helpful Mark, same as my life experience.

I gave a girl a pearl necklace once.

To much information and not very helpful Keith but nice to hear from you all the same :)

I'll be darned. He doesn't look the type. Seriously.

[/I]

Well to be honest that is the opinion of the vets, and 99% of the time he is fine.

He is a rescue dog so we will never know how he has been treated in the past and he seems to have an acute awareness of anyone who does not like him and can over react / over protect his turf, maybe a survival instinct from his past.

When we got him the Dogs Home said he new three commands sit, paw, and get out, think that last one says it all.

I'd have to agree...unfortunately. (Some people deserve to be flogged.)

At least now he obviously has it made. I mean, just look at him!:thumbsup:

Give him an extra 'doggie treat' for me tonight, will ya?

Sorry for the continuing thread drift but this is more fun than arguing about guns.

Extra doggie treat are you joking

My wife,

Going out I'll give Stan a treat.

Coming in I'll give Stan a treat.

It's raining I'll give Stan a treat.

The sun is shining I'll give Stan a treat.

Were going out again I'll give Stan a treat and put the light on as it's dark and he might get scared, and I'll put the telly on so he doesn't get lonely.

I'm going out I've given Stan his tea fluffed up his blanket and bed given him a walk and a brush, you will have to get your own tea didn't have time to do it.

Don't get me wrong it's not all bad, since the rabbits died a number of years ago I moved up two places in importance although I will always be behind Stan and the rockery, and no matter what Stan is always pleased to see me :)

Bit like this really
