re: Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars

So enough of the jejuness from me in the paddock.

I am laid up with a damaged ligament in my ankle so had time to do some detective work and I've been searching for some time for the OEM fuel transfer system and was very pleased that I located a decent quantity of original Superflexit fuel hose couplings and new hose last week. These differ from the usual "push fit and ring clamp" type and are screwed.
Sounding similar, 'Simplifix' is a different hose and uses a lesser-refined coupling than Superflexit and was used for the oil system but I have seen cars fitted with this product for fuel applications.
I am also considering getting some modern hose printed with the old Simplifix yellow indicator stripe. Both products were manufactured near Slough in the sixties, not co-incidentally the home of FAV.
The Superflexit hose was also used by other race car companies in the sixties and it is still available from France for aircraft refit. The costs were frightening and is so expensive that it is sold by the centimetre by the dealer to avoid costly waste.
I will need to verify those measurements before I make any cuts.

Hi James,

Good to hear from you and sorry to hear about your ligament.

So, you found some alternatives to the fuel hoses. I am looking forward to see some pictures.

Get well soon!

All the best
JP

Hi JP,
'Will do when I fit them.
I am currently working on the SW fuel pumps tray.

Original front Hartwell latches had a radius to fit the curvature of the clip.
These will fit the bill.

Jim,
These tyres are only temporary to get the chassis down on the deck. We have a bit more to do before we hit the bricks !

I had a set of those... Radial TAs that were mostly to keep the chassis off the road until I got some driving tires on the wheels. They are going to end up on someone's Camaro or GTO, I think- I traded them off.

Alistair's chassis looks great. Some of those bits look like they hail from Maine, USA, I think.

Good for you. Finding those items isn't easy... I have far fewer vintage pieces and they were difficult to find.

Jim,
Agreed - finding these pieces is difficult but we have a few good friends who are willing to part with a lot them. The tough part is restoring them to as-new condition which takes some time, but then like you we have been into this for longer than we care to think.
As you know I try to make all of the expensive castings and I am currently working with a small aerospace foundry on making us a batch of new brakes.

Most of the time we get parts on a one-by-one basis but sometimes we get lucky with a single bulk purchase and the GT40 fairy sprinkles them at the bottom of my vegetable patch. At least that's what my wife believes.
