what kind of manifold do you use or from what source did you get it?
I am looking for a nice and correct inlet manifold for Weber 48IDA's on a 302.

Lots of updates to share..

Firstly, I had to make a rather hard decision regarding my ECU. I had a Motec M48 ECU and wiring harness provided with my engine. I thought this would be fine as it has sequential ignition timing built in and a Lambda sensor. However, after many discussions about it's suitability, I ditched it in favour of the new Accel system. The main issue with the Motec was that it was a system primarily designed for racing applications and not for controlling emmissions ( I had an early model M48 ) My inlet manifold was also a racing manifold with no air box for the IAC sensor.
This was my next change. My inlet manifold needed to be modified. This was done with some clever machining.
 
I also had my dash flocked. I love the way it looks.
Massive holes now appearing in my bank balance.
When I undertook building one of these, I never imagined it would be so difficult or so expensive. Is it worth it ? Damn yes.

Looking good, don't ever add up what the total cost is I made that mistake recently, and I'm not as far along as you :eek: .

Have you finished your "messy work", I flocked my dash but am reluctant to fit it because of the dust or have you got a way of keeping it off the dash.

Not sure what to suggest. My inlet manifold came with my engine and is not a webber manifold. Mine is for Jenvey throttle bodies which are 48mm bore and designed for an injected engine but not the webber bolt pattern. I think there are quite a few different sources you can try for Webber IDA inlet manifolds though. try these links

Hi Nick,

The messy work is done for now until it goes to the painter, then it's his responsibility. My body is aligned and on and I'm not going to do any more sanding or filling now. The program of work is to get the engine started, then finish the gear change, then prep for IVA, registration and on to paint.
Lots of jobs in between but these are the major milestones.
I'm still refusing to put any time pressure on the project so It'll get done when time and money permits, and when Mick and the boys can fit me in.

Hi Brett,

Definitely before paint. You never know what may need changing like wing mirrors etc and I'd hate to have to drill new holes in finished paint.

Just wanted to congratulate you. The IVA is so close I bet you can almost smell it :thumbsup:

In an earlier post, you mentioned that you had you dash flocked. I was going to paint mine for the IVA than later think about having it 'leathered' but I have to say, your dash looks great. Can you tell me a bit more about it (I have no idea what flocking is) and who did yours?

Hi Ian,

It looks better in the flesh too. The finish is like a velvet covering and looks really good. I was a little afraid it may take away from the period look as I was originally just going to paint it Matt black, but I'm glad now I decided to have it flocked. It doesn't look out of place and finishes it off really well. I had mine done in Southampton but that's not going to help you in Scotland. It was £100 which i though was pretty reasonable.

Here's a pic of a Ferrari P4 dash to show you what flocking looks like.

The top of the dash and instrument cowls are flocked and the face of the dash is crinkle paint.

The flock itself is like Action Man's hair, or the linning of your daily driver's glove box perhaps. Nice and non-reflective from a driving point of view.

With thanks and in recognition of all the hard work Southern GT are putting into my car, for the sake of this forum I have classified my car as an MDA/SGT MK1. I'm proud to have their name associated with my build. Without them, I would be floundering. With them, I will have a truely spectacular car.

Some more progress to report.
The exhaust system is almost done. The tail pipes are tacked on in position. The position of the tail pipes on the silencers is different left and right. This was done to make sure the pipes exit and look symetrical when the body is on as the body itself is not symetrical to the chasssis.
The cut outs in the rear allow the system to sit as low as possible and the slight angle shaved off the front allows for better clearance. These were custom made for me and look great.
I'm sticking with the MDA heat shield, which I like.
