...If it gets hot enough to change the sea level, we won't have to worry about water, we'll cook. We can talk about this till were blue in the face, but until we can persuade China, India, and other bad polluters into doing something we are shoveling against the tide. Why isn't anyone concerned about the clear cutting of rain forests? They clean our air.

...and don't forget about the seemingly random variations in both the tilt of the Earth's axis AND the level of 'sun spot' activity as they pertain to "global warming" as well. I still want to know how Al Gore and the boys propose to/are going to control/limit/correct(?!) those.

Some very large counter weights. Actually they will be spending money, getting massages and trying to talk masseuses into hummers, not to be confused with the wheeled variety.

Some very large counter weights.

'Zackly what "I be thinkin'" (Geo. Wallace). BUT, the weights would need to be movable/portable in case someone determined yet another "shift" has somehow begun.

But, what about the sun spots? Mayhaps a huge pair of polarized sun glasses put in orbit around the planet?

Pete, Is this true?

Australia’s conservative coalition is set to cut more than 90 percent of the funding related to global warming from their budget, from $5.75 billion this year to $500 million, over the next four years.

Environmentalists and leftist politicians in the country protested the move by conservative Liberal Party Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s governing coalition to slash funding for climate programs, arguing such funding for green energy and reducing carbon dioxide emissions were necessary to stop global warming.

But Abbott’s government shot back, saying that the country needed to reduce the size of government and improve the economy.

“The coalition government acknowledges the role of renewable energy in Australia’s energy mix,” said Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane. “There is over $1 billion in funding for existing renewable projects to be completed over the coming years.”

“Given the tight fiscal environment as a result of [liberal] Labor’s legacy of debt and deficit, the government considers there is a very significant investment in renewable energy,” MacFarlane added.

Abbott’s Liberal-National coalition won a landslide victory in Australia’s election last fall. One of the main promises of Abbott’s coalition was to repeal the country’s carbon tax and costly environmental agenda.

The Liberal-National’s plan to repeal the carbon tax are stuck in the Senate due to Labor and Green party members joining to block any attempt at repeal. Green and Labor party members have refused to back the carbon tax repeal until Abbott proposed an alternative plan to fight global warming.

“Tony Abbott should now abandon the so-called direct action plan, which is little more than a slogan,” Green leader Christine Milne said in a statement.

But Abbott shows no signs of slowing down in his quest to repeal the country’s environmental laws, which have slowed economic growth, including mining taxes, green energy funding and the carbon tax.

“The carbon tax is an act of economic vandalism,” Abbott said in March. “You can’t trust [Labor] anywhere near an economy.”

The carbon tax was imposed by former Labor Prime Minister Julia Gillard in the summer of 2012, and quickly became unpopular as businesses and households began to bear the costs of higher power bills and higher inflation.

“Poor policy processes tend to lead to poor policy outcomes,” wrote Dr. Alex Robson, an economist at Australia’s University of Brisbane, in a study prepared for the Institute for Energy Research, which opposes a carbon tax. “Australia’s carbon tax experience provides a number of important lessons in how not to go about implementing sensible climate change policy.”

After just one year, the carbon tax increased taxes on 2.2 million Australians, according to Robson, and has done nothing to decrease the country’s carbon emissions, which aren’t predicted to fall below current levels until 2043.

Robson also found that a year after being enacted, the carbon tax caused electricity prices to rise 15 percent. The country’s unemployment rate shot up by 10 percent after the carbon tax was implemented.

The carbon tax was basically socialism masquerading as environmentalism.

Yes Al it is although I haven't checked the precise numbers.
Abbott is doing what he was elected to do balance the budget and reduce Government spending. Our media like yours is with few exceptions left wing so Abbott is getting some really bad press...
He also started a Royal Commission into union corruption, see my thread "watch this space". Which the press are trying very hard to totally ignore, I expect that all the things I said in that post will come out and Julia Gillard will face justice.

This is an astonishing indictment on those who chose to covertly manipulate an entire generation in order to further a political objective.

The idea that even after all this tax, carbon output would not even start to fall until 2043 is mind boggling. Most of us, me included, hoped that by these measures, we might be doing right by our children or at least our children's children, and now what?

And Pete did get attacked for being "an old white grumpy guy" on more than one occasion for bringing this all up, but I would have to say he's been vindicated, unless you want to say that its all a "right wing plot."

It is more than gratifying to see someone who's philosophy tends more to the Left to admit that the "Weather Disruption" is a manipulated political/financial scheme, rather than an honest attempt at "saving Mother Earth."

Our inimitable Brother, Pete, found the words/proof, and our dear leader, Keith, put it together!

And it only took, what, Two and a half years or so???

;~)

My nature is to be (correctly) suspicious of the Messengers in a world of propaganda and misinformation old buddy... nothing more.

Besides which, I was never really interested in the science/non-science, and apart from recycling all my cardboard, I don't fuck with it.

Agendas-Are-Us is alive and kicking...

Abbott has been named by the Washington Post as the worlds most hated Prime Minister.
WTF would they know? I'm guessing that it is a left wing rag, am I correct?

I'm fairly certain that the readership couldn't point to Australia on a map let alone 'hate' it's Prime Minister. I can't be certain of its leanings, but it did 'out' Nixon.....

It really seems to me that the climate change debate is totally divided along party political lines.... Except for Jim who doesn't know. Well I don't know either because I would have to live for at least the next two thousand years to have a small idea at all. Great idea but I don't think it will happen.
What I do know is this debate has nothIng to do with science and all to do with money and power.
Bullshit baffles brains....

For someone who finds it zzzzzzz making you sure post a lot.

last april I had the opportunity to visit Longyearbyren in Svalbard islands. After what I've seen up there, i really DONT think global warming is a joke. the Island is the thermomether of the world and is changing deeply year after year. It was scary stuff.

Not a news polarbears already started to migrate from far North to norway inland..and...canada !!!..simply swimming all the way... O.o..

Pete you cant deny that this thread goes around in circles and its for that reason alone I find it boring. The non stop digs and banter I love but the "factual" content is mere speculation and endless finger pointing , when the revenues streams generated from this circus dwindle they will be replaced with another tax because it is what worldwide governments have learned to rely on and abuse. That is it and nothing will change, anyway I am a wogg so I can say what I like.

Hey Paulo! How's it hanging? I don't think there's any doubt that the climate is changing - it's been doing that for millions of years. The 'debate' here is the extent of mankind's influence over that change and the likelihood of concerted action to bring a halt, or slow down that change.

The sceptics maintain that climate change is natural and there's not much we can do about it except adapt, and the other mob are saying it's man made and therefore we should set about creating balance by paying more in tax. :stunned:

See? It doesn't add up!

Either way, it's true that a lot of charlatans in business and politics or both, have made a shed load of cash out of the 'fear' of 'man-made climate change' and that is really what the cynics are banging on about. In this way, it has also become politically divided which means there will never be an equitable solution as now, nobody believes anyone else's climate scientists.

There is an old Italian saying that covers this Paulo:

"We're fucked either way"
