Need advice to build pair of race muffler slip on’s

Good morning,

my name is Chris and I recently bought a used Gelscoe GT40 that we plan to race. For now our vintage racing experience is with a 1974 NASCAR Dodge. So the GT40 is quite a step up !

Since most track events have a 103 dB noise limit, I need to install a pair of race mufflers to replace the straight pipes that are on the car now. I’ve found various 4-1 reducers that can be bought at Summit Racing. There are also various race mufflers offered.

What would you recommend ? Who has some detail pictures of such a build and could post them here ?

I don't know the dimensions of your set-up, but what I did was weld V-band flanges close to the 4-1 collectors, with the recipient of the V-band placed on both the mufflers, and on the straight pipes, for easy swapping between street/track. I did have to go with a short turbo muffler in order to keep the length acceptable, and not sure where the turbo muffler runs in noise level.

Southern GT make a pair of silencers to fit your need exactly. I used to faff about with add ons and wadding etc to get into Goodwood, and it was always nail biting at noise testing, as well as very restricting for the engine. But these do the job every time without fail and without any wadding.
I can thoroughly recommend them. Fit and forget that problem.

Look at their site. They do.
Shown is the full system that can be converted to 2 round mufflers and converted to 2 open pipes

I made mine using 2 simons 2,5" turbo mufflers and 2 supertrapp mufflers. I used some nuts between the disks to adjust the noise level and had 97db on stand sound measured 2 ft from outlet 3750rpm. the disks was on only for regisration to get plates. Now disks are in a box much nicer sound. But the supertrapp is nice since you can adjust the db easy.

I know this isn't specific to your application, but you get the idea (in regards to short mufflers and V-bands). Looking at the preceding double mufflers, it may not fit your need for noise requirements. Takes about 10 minutes of work to swap to straight pipes.

Speak to Mick at Southern GT for prices etc., (01489 890384) he's always really helpful. I'm just a (very) satisfied customer.
But here is a picture of mine. As Terry says, V-band clamps are the king to quickly slip on straight pipes for those noisy days!
