Really sad,
Looks like it must have been brake failure or stuck throttle as it didnt look as though the car slowed much before impact (judging by the amount, location and type of damage)
That is really dreadful. Judging by the video and pics of the scene the accident was at very high speed. I wonder if the proximity of the barriers to the track and the concrete wall backing needs looking at as the tyre wall was very severely damaged. A terrible time for his family and friends as he was so young and talented and had a lot to look forward to. Very sorry to hear of this tragedy.
Cheers
Mike
'Wonder if it would have helped to have had sand 2-3 ft deep from the track to the wall...and maybe a few more rows of tires (or a catch net), since it at a-p-p-e-a-r-s the approach from the track to the tires is just bare dirt(?). (Sand should have left very clear tire ruts one would think.)
I was thinking how ironic just as the Rush movie is released. Trapped in the car for 2 hours and a big fire. Life imitating art imitating life. What's also poignant is that this was his first visit to Australia, just tragic on all levels.
I've been instructing for over 10 years. Been in one incident. Nothing like this. We take chances each time we get into a car that someone else owns, repairs, and drives.
That model has ABS.
I know people in that feild of racing and several have had moments with the abs.
You get on the sand and you have nothing.
I would not be suprised when it comes out if it has a bearing on the accident.
Sad day.
I was at Lakeside raceway yesterday when we heard the news and as the two tracks are run by the same entity we heard the news pretty quick, the thoughts are a stuck throttle as the car was still under power when it hit.
a very sad day .
