That is for sure a special marketing strategy : Buy it first and you'll know what it is...:stunned:
I fully understand that Tornado USA doesn't want to disclose the details of the proprietary modifications engineered in the UN1 but I don't understand why further and global informations can't be given.
Tornado USA wrote :
"Our 5 speed UN1 transaxle, with RH change, modified 2nd & 3rd gears and drilled out oil ways, is available all day long for about $2600."
As I previously wrote "modified 2nd and 3rd gears" don't mean anything and can mean a lot. Without entering into deep details on how the UN1 is made, these words can mean various things of various values :
Let's consider "Modified 2nd gear" could mean :
Option 1 :The input pinion of the 2nd is directly machined in the primeshaft. If you change the teeth cutting or modify the ratio, it means that you have to modify both pinions and so the primeshaft. Is the primeshaft modified? (Big value) and if so the new ratio would be a great selling argument.
Option 2 : Also, there is a spring on the shifting rail to help to engage the 2nd gear..after a while this spring often gets into trouble...and some specialists remove it others change the spring strength, others polish the shift rail to make the shifting softer..etc....
Option 3 : Dog teeth are weak and can quickly come rounded, they can be cutted to an other angle and strengthened with for example a shot peening...
Option X : Some blue printing - heavy duty needle bearing - lightened pinions and hubs - lightened locking ring...etc....
The list of option is long and obviously they don't bring the same benefits or value...
Also "drilled out oil ways" can mean holes inside the case as for example the oil flow betwen main section and rear section can be improved...it can be also enlarged oil ways in the 1st and 2nd pinion, or even holes in the 3rd, 4th and 5th pinions as they don't have any oil holes or it might be oil connectors to add a cooler to the gearbox or let's dream...all these options..;-)
And just to finish, UN1 comes with 2 final drive ratio : 9x31 or 9x35. The first one will give you higher speed for a given RPM but less torque, the second the contrary, eventually these are also important informations to know.
That was what I had to say...let's go back to work...
