Took the car to Ric Wood Motorsport yesterday to try to get to the bottom of the misfire.
The good news is Ric found another 40 plus horsepower from it's dyno test so now running 370hp. He thinks it will be closer to 400 when I have sorted out my pedal box and throttle cable issues as he could only get 3/4 throttle.
The bad news is it has not fixed the misfire, he also wasn't impressed with my car / engine building ability, and thinks I may have made a "mistake" setting up the hydraulic lifters so suggested taking the inlet manifold off and starting again. Followed by checking the float levels, junking the facet red top fuel pumps and regulators and replacing them with holley ones. Finally sorting out a decent throttle cable and beefing up my pedal box.
Hoping the guys in the northern section will come to my aid with setting up the lifers and float levels as I now feel way out of depth on such issues.
The disastrous news, went to move the car off the rolling road and it would not budge. To cut a long story short it looks like the back offside wheel bearing has seized solid.
Every cloud has a silver lining, who in this case turned out to be Mike Pass. He had popped down to spend a relaxing few hours, having a look at things. He then spent literally hours with me man handling the car back onto the trailer with a combination of jacks and car dollies and inch by inch process, involving literally lots of sweat.
He then followed me back to my house to help me get the car off the trailer and into the garage. "I could not have done it without you", is an often used saying but in this case it is 100% correct, I really could not have done it without him, and the consequences of that do not bear thinking about.
So IVA has moved way into the distance, and at the present moment I am at my darkest hour, a real cross roads, carry on or give up. Head says give up as I obviously don't have the skills required, heart says to much time and money spent to give up, presently some poor unfortunate souls in Italy along with many others around the world know what a disaster really is, keep calm and carry on, and I have 370hp which is way more than my driving skills and experience require
Thanks again Mike the single handed cavalry man who came riding over the hill.
