Steering Noise in 90% turns

I cannot determine where this whinning noise is coming from when I am making a 90% turn left or right. I checked that my tires are not rubbing anywhere and I have plenty of clearance with the tires when turning all the way left and right. Any suggestions?

I couldnt help thinking it might be your passenger getting a bit concerned about the not you making the last 10% of each corner... :) , but I assume that its really when your doing 90° turns...? right...or...left!!

Is it at slow or high speeds?

If your wheel bearings have a bit of play when you turn hard left or right it can allow the disc rotor to move and touch the brake shoes at a different angle which can sometimes cause the sound you describe.

Usually only at slow speed.

I too was concerned about 90% turns. I think I've had a few of those on track that then led to Agricultural Excursions.

And if so you can prove it by lightly pressing the brake at the time, which should change or eliminate it, thus confirming the cause.

It's not unknown for the inside of the brake disc to touch the lower wishbone at full lock, particularly in reverse. Depends on your bell offsets, obviously.
You can spot this by a grooved witness mark on the inner surface of the disc.
The immediate answer is not to use full lock and to grind the lower wishbone down slightly, but not enough to affect its integrity.

Or, the power steering pump --starving ?
Or, plain 'ole wheel alignment --progressive toe out ?
--should be a troubleshooting guide in the owners manual ?
Or just turn to 85° instead of 90% ?

Tony,
You must be joking, or are you not ?

This noise occurs at low and fast speeds. I do not have an owners manual so I do not want to sound ignorant but what is the left lever that I can pull down 1 or 2 clicks located near my left knee? What postition should it be in and when. Could this be the culprit?

Thanks!

Thanks for your input! I will check this out. Should I be looking for anything visually? Can this damage anything in your opinion?
