The Difference 28 years makes...

My foray into the American Dream 1986. There's me posing youthfully on the 'bridge' into my brand new house in Huntsville. I say 'youthful' but I was already 40 or so. I had sold out of my night-clubs in the UK and went in search of some adventure!

Out of curiosity, some 28 years later on a 'Google Drive By' My Englishman's Castle it seems to have been 'Amuricanised' :)

What do you suppose caused the whole top third of the house to 'shift' about 4 inches to the right in the middle (and last) photo???!

Golbal warming?

So Keith, is Huntsville noted as an adventure destination?

Well, you would know Jim that Hunstville Alabama, home of the Marshall Space Centre of Space SDhuttle fame, is also home to Redstone Arsenal otherwise know as the US military's 'skunk works' It was nothing to see a cruise missile flying around the town where everyplace was a Von Braun something.

Pop around 500,00 I would guess now and in 1948 when they shipped in Werner and his team, I believe it was 300. Very International in flavour and only 100 miles south of Nashville if you wanted to up the ante. Strangely though, if you travelled out of town by more than 5 miles in any direction, things could get rather parochial!

Spent a lot of my time in and around Florida, Dallas, Austin stuff like that as well.

But yes, I liked Huntsville and as I lived in the white dominated South East of the City, there were loads of cops and zero crime :)

Oh, and Hardee's Biscuits and Popeyes Chicken. What's not to like?

Back of the same house on the deck - in the trees. I found this one whilst digging out the car pics. I don't have many at all, that's what divorce does - you end up with a load of torn pictures with just yourself in them. Women can be very harsh.

Anyway, this one brought a lump to my throat really as she (Laura) was taken away from me by the ex some 8 years later and I missed her growing up.

Here she is now 25 years later with my grandaughter Ava. Grown up a bit, what? Like I say, I don't have very many of these. Very remiss.

Unfortunately no Terry. She lives only 20 miles away, but I rarely see them. She is a single parent so it's a bit of a difficult life as she works full time.

I did hear from her just before Christmas - sent her some money, but we never met up.

The photo was taken in November when I managed to drive over myself and found her in for a change!

My wife was involved in a similar situation, and she greatly regreted not spending more time with her dad prior to his passing. I hope she's (your daughter) not making that same mistake. It still bothers my wife many years later.

Keith we are kindred spirits, my first wife, yes there was one, engaged two years and married six months, no kids thank goodness. She destroyed, burnt every photograph I owned at the time, all my photos from the Army, my motor racing, flying and our life together.
Very sad, but fortunately the memory's linger and the older I get the better I was.
Love ya mate, in a blokey way of course.
