Tornado in Vermont

Looking very nice Bill, not long to go now. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see the car after it's been painted

Thanks Andy, I agree, buy the end of the day they should be opened. As far as color, a very modern Mango Tango is the flavor of the day.

No pictures to post of the GT as body work continues. By Sunday eve underside of nose and tail pieces should be in satin black. Finish paint by end of the week.
Being at home on Sunday gave me a chance to get the Daytona out for a run. After sitting the winter and getting fuel up to the carb she fired right up. Checked all systems for leaks or other problems long term storage can cause, found none, I backed the car out of the garage for the first time this spring.
After giving the car a good dusting I got Sarah strapped in and we took a nice drive to lunch. Back home 3 hours later all is well here.
So here's the Daytona,Sarah and me. It was a good Sunday Afternoon!

very nice car Bill, lovely pics.
does it have the same engine as the GT40 or different...
love them both, the GT40 and the Daytona, given both the same engine/power what car would be faster and or easier to drive round a track and what car easier to live with as say a one only car.

They are both running 347's. The coupe is a flat tappet cam while the GT has a roller cam. 410 hp on the dyno for the coupe, 450 on the dyno for the GT.
The coupe,I call a bad boy in a tux is hard and rough. The GT, a bit more refined,a bit more comfortable, a bit more quiet and perhaps a bit easier to live with. Big brother little brother
Bill

More good progress over the weekend. The under side of the nose and tail are now in satin black as are the engine surround and the buckets for the head lights and marker lights. The insides of the doors are in paint and all of the jambs have been painted. We also got the side windows and light covers fit and drilled. After getting the fuel filler caps mounted, I refit the dash, final time for that I hope. Then I fit the top and side trim at the front of the spyder. The final under side task was to fit the insulation to the underside of the rear clip.
The windshield had been fit earlier in the week. Unfortunately when we got the glass rear window out of storage we found it was cracked. Any body got one I can borrow Tornado is waiting for a batch.
The weekend ended with the nose, doors and tail all refit to chassis. Final wet sanding starts tomorrow with final paint and stripes by weeks end.

Sorry to say I've no pictures to post today but I do have progress to report. I spoke to Randy this afternoon and can report that the GT is now in color. Tomorrow will bring stripes and clear coat, with wet sanding and buffing on Friday and Saturday. Sarah and I will be there on Saturday. There is still work to do with assembly and cleaning.
On a slightly different note, I took a trip to the Vermont D.M.V. today to see about getting the GT registered. After going over all my paper work, the only question I had to answer was the conversion of British Pounds to U.S dollars. Ten minutes later I walked out of the D.M.V. with the GT registered as a 1966 Ford GT40. I love the state of Vermont!
Please be assured that I will never refer to my car as a original GT40. The state of Vt. will register a replica auto to the year it replicates.
Hope to see some of you next month in Carlisle, Pa.

Well after two years of construction the GT took a big step toward being finished. Randy had a long day on both Friday and Saturday with wet sanding and buffing and with help from me on Sunday, at mid afternoon we rolled the GT out of the paint both into the sun for the first time with its new suit of color. As the new father, I couldn't be happier.
So at this point I give you my Tornado GT40 in finished paint but not quite finished. :drunk::drunk::drunk:
