Tornado in Vermont

Bill, that's great news! You must be very proud, especially given all you have been through of late. Whenever the engine is fired for the first time, it's always a red letter day.

Good for you, Bill-it's always a big deal when a car you built starts for the first time. the exhaust system looks great. How did it sound?

Thanks for the thumbs up guys, it was a great thing to hear it run after a 1.5 year build time. It sounds fantastic a very different sound from my Daytona coupe, even though they both are running 347's. The coupe, through it's side pipes has a much deeper exhaust note. As those of you who have a 40 or have heard one live know, they have a sound all of they're own. Yes, a 347 is note going to rev as high a 289 or 302 but you can't beat the extra low end grunt.
I now plan to get the chassis to North County for final paint and assembly before Christmas.

Well, after many delays of all sorts which I could not control, today Feb.11 @ 4:00 PM with air temp. @ 10*F, I finally have the GT chassis ready to transport to the body shop for paint and finish. All of the systems except for the AC have been checked and passed all tests. I still have things to finish but they can be done @ Randy's shop.
I did a walk around with my camera before loading it into the trailer. So here is my GT40 chassis as it goes to final paint and finish.

Lookin' awesome, Bill!

The last time I was over to see your car, you were in the middle of the frame buildup. I think it's fair to say you can see light at the end of the tunnel now.

It's been awhile since my last post but work on the GT continues. We have refit the rear clip to recheck all lines and gaps. All is well there. We set the rear window in place and found that the rear edge of the air cleaner just hits the inside of the window. By the way,I'm fitting a glass rear window I got from Tornado. I'll get lower base for the air cleaner and problem solved.
We also narrowed the rear plate area to fit the U.S. size plate. While not as was,I like the look better. The nose has been refit and is way on it's way to finish. I did find that I had to relocate both the A/C dryer and the screen washer unit as they fouled the outside walls of the single nostril hood panel. Now in different locations I have no problem with fit.
Lastly, I was able to get the pull cable in place for the reverse lock out, boy does that work slick. That brought Sat. to a close as it's a long drive home. I'll be back with the car next weekend for more finish work as final paint is coming fast. I've got a date with Scott Calarbro to have the finished car in the Tornado Sports Cars display at the Carlisle Pa. show May 18th.
More next week. Bill

Saturday saw some more time spent with the GT. Upon a suggestion from me, Randy cut and molded in both the rear fog light as well as the reversing light. Looks so much better than having them mounted on the rear hinge cover. I was able to cut, fit and drill the trim for the front of the spyder. As with all of the panels it will be satin black with aluminum rivets. The rear clip is now ready for final sanding, the doors have been refit for final fitting and the nose will be in final primer by mid week. We are well on our way for finish by the end of the month.
Bill

Very nice indeed. Why do they have two brake boosters, Bill? Just curious. I don't have any. I view this as an opportunity for exercise, I guess.

Jim, The Tornado has two types of brake systems. One is 100% manual while the other is power assist. With the two servos in the power assist system, one servo is for the front brakes the other is for the rear. Two independent systems.

I'm happy to report more progress on the GT this past week and weekend. The front clip was refit for a final check of lines and gaps. By Monday PM nose and doors will be ready and all body parts will be final prime,I hope. Underside finish next then final paint by the end of next week. Sounds busy,I know but it will be finished in time to go to the Carlisle Pa. show next month. Hope to see some of you there.
PS. Pics later I hope.

I was able to get the pictures from my camera into the computer with help from Sarah,so with no further delays here's what I got at the end of the weekend.
Bill

Nice job. I can not wait to see it in paint but you do need to cut out those NACA ducts.

Thanks

Andy
