Hello Kiwis,

My family and I will travel to New Zealand beginning of April.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p>
We will arrive in Christchurch on April 2nd.
<o:p></o:p>
The first days we will stay in and around Christchurch.
<o:p></o:p>
We are thinking to take the TranzAlpine Train back and forth. What’s your opinion?

The plan is to travel the South Island first and then move to the North Island.
<o:p></o:p>
We will fly out from Auckland on April 30th.
<o:p></o:p>
Do you have any recommendations regarding points of interests?<o:p></o:p>
Especially but not exclusively Museums for Cars, Trains, Airplanes etc. or race events of any kind or anything else.
<o:p></o:p>
Is it possible to visit Dave Brown at Classic Car Developments in Invercargill?

Thank you in advance for any tips.

Regards,

Markus

Yes, do the TranzAlpine by all means. Really nice trip. How do you intend travelling round the country? You could spend your whole time just exploring the South Island by rental car or motorhome (the drive in to Milford Sound is a must). However, I understand the desire to see as much as possible. There is plenty of great scenery to see in either island.

The Southward motor museum at Paraparaumu (Car Museum at Southwards - Southward Car Museum) and the WOW museum in Nelson (Home | World of WearableArt & Classic Cars Museum) are probably our best car museums, but there are other smaller ones.

I suspect Dave Brown would be only too happy for you to pay him a visit. He is just a 2 and a half hour drive south of me. I always have spare beds for GT40 travellers at my house in Dunedin and you’d be most welcome.

Go here (New Zealand Motorsport Calendar at DONS AUTO PAGES) for the NZ 2011 Motorsport Calendar. Shame you are leaving on 30 April – the historic meet at Timaru on that day should be good.
