Well, a 40 minus 9 - feet that is.

My good friend and forum mentor, Mr David Morton has pursuaded me to share with you all, my latest acquisition, which would have been a '40 for sure, but for my health...

Ex Police Harbour Safety and Rescue Launch. She Rocks! Well, not that much

For the technically minded: Medium 'V' planing hull powered by twin Perkins T6354 150 hp Turbo Diesels through Borg Warner Velvet Drive gearboxes.. Speed (with a clean bottom) circa 28 knots.

Check the Industrial Strength Radar! (Dave, you've got to fix it for me)

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

PS She has been involved with quite a few Coastguard Rescues as the previous owner was an Auxiliary Coastguard for 20 years and owned it for 30. I am only the third owner since it was built in 1976.

Cheers Pete! It's built from industrial strength GRP and is generally constructed like a brick dunny mate :) Only 6 were ever made and there is only one other left now which is on Lake Victoria where it is currently serving as a Police Boat Gun Boat.

So this is quite unique in the UK which is partly why I got it. I like minimalistic military type stuff - everything is overbuilt and 'chunky' - built with only one purpose in mind - a bit like the GT40 - no frills, although some of the ladies on this forum I hear are fitting stereos and MP3 players and the like... :furious:

Hate pretty, girlie boats with tumble driers... :)

Another advantage is that it still looks vaguely official so everyone slows right down as soon as they see it.. (and chuck their contraband over the side)

Do you think I could get it to Oz if I towed a tanker?

Nah, it's final resting place will be on the beautiful Upper Thames, not far from Morton Towers so he can join me when the Gin Pennant flies :)

This is all so exciting - I might get to play Deck Hand, Navigator, Cook, Person who Pipes things that Matelos understand by piping things, Radio Operator (I need a morse key put back in Keith), Wit, Raconteur, After dinner speaker, A general all rounder, and fixer of radar things. Brilliant.

Good show Keith. Keeping her in Lymington?

Jack, regretfully not - it would cost $9,981 USD annually to keep it in a Lymington Marina, and the cheaper Harbour pontoons (about 1/2 that) have a 25 year waiting list.

The annoying thing is that 90% of the 4,000 yachts and boats in the Marinas here are owned by companies as a 'tax avoidance' strategy and thus are hardly ever used but are occupying the prime spots. Hence the hiked mooring price. These companies are not price sensitive and ordinary joes like me can't get a foot in the door unless we pay the same rates..They can also claim the VAT back too the buggers :veryangry:

But it is a great place to live, even if I can't keep my boat here too... :)

No mate - you ARE Roger the Cabin Boy...

BUGGERS is right! I had no idea, although I did know that many were only there for tax purposes. Anything on Isle of Wight. or is it the same problem?

I LOVE the New Forrest!

Nothing alongside, as I would need a pontoon mooring, plus the stretch of water between us and Yarmouth (3 miles) is $62 USD return with a car on the ferry, and $18 usd as a foot passenger - the most expensive water passage (per yard) in the World.

Oh they know how to skin you around here allright. But there again, it's the kind of area everyone wants to move to!

I own my own house outright now (thanks to my Mum RIP) so at least I have an 'estate' to pass on to my kids.. :)

I don't know though, I love the Upper Thames for it's (relative) tranquility on the water, and Dave is fast running out of things to fix in his house, so... there is a method behind my madness... :drunk:

Just make sure you don't end up playing Cabin Boy in "The Admirals First Mate" :lipsrsealed:

Is that Roger the cabin boy or rogering the cabin boy?:stunned:
I cannot imagine DM in that role, thank goodness. Keith I didn't think GRP for some reason. Are you planning to live aboard?

Congratulations Keith, now you just need to see if you can get David to "recycle lunch" as quickly as he did the Red Cross "Doughnut Dollies" in back in the day ;)

Seriously, it's beautiful and may she always bring favorable voyages, and great times for you.

Very nice! You'll feel like Nelson on that. Perhaps it's time to change your name to "Kiss me, Hardy"....

Cabin boy ? Highly unlikely. The Boats Social Secretary more like.
Keith will have to think about installing a modest wine cellar, a champagne cooler, and and ice maker when it comes around to the Thames. After all, this will probably be the closest mooring to Cliveden you can get.
An internet connection and web cam might also be of use.
