Has any one looked at or used MiMod HP system?

Ya wait another year and every company making gauge's out there will be offering these things.
I sure there will be a app for your I pad , I phone etc... there will be Japanese clones coming out your ying yang.

Bringing this thread back from the dead for my first post and contribution.......

I have done a A LOT of research for a GTM build (including an extensive parts list) and am doing the same for an SL-C build now that it has caught my eye as well. For me, the capability and potential of what this type of system can offer in a custom built car would be the "center piece" of the car (besides the actual car itself), since not many cars on the road, even super cars, have all of this capability, control or customization of the driver interface with the car.

But back on topic...... Below is some additional integrated capability I would like to see, all of which are currently part of my build plan if I can make it work in the car

1. Night Vision. Using the PathfindIR thermal imaging system will give the car the same night vision capability found in other high end vehicles such as BMW and Mercedes. This particular system is already available as an aftermarket kit from many vendors. For me, I would like the option to put the IR image on the "ahead of driver" screen or the center console screen. If on the driver screen, being able to overlay simple driver data such as speed, rpm and turn signals would also be perfect since screen space is at a premium on the driver screen. Sample pic below....

2. Radar Detector Integration. I am partial to the V1 so I am not familiar with the integration capabilities of other radar detector units. However, in a CarPC that I built for my car, I had the V1 integrated such that I did not have the V1 Remote Display mounted somewhere on my dash. It would be great to have an option to have the V1 display on the driver screen or the center screen. For my CarPC setup, I had the V1 display "pop up" when an alert was detected and then disappear after a few seconds so that dedicated screen real estate was not required. There are different "black boxes" out there that will allow the interface between a V1 and a car or PC, including PC based software. Some are still available, some are not (the hardware and software that I currently have is no longer available - I first got it back in 2006). However, I would think it would not be too difficult for your software engineers to reproduce. Here is a link to some development info on how to create a V1 interface. A picture of what I am talking about is below.

IMG_1260.JPG

3. Race Logic Traction Control. Race Logic has a digital interface for their unit that allows for additional functionality and fine tuning/control of the system. Since it is a digital interface, it would be a matter of getting the two "black boxes" to talk to each other such that the Race Logic info can be displayed and controlled on the center screen. Here is link to a bit more info.

Those are the three big ones for me, being the gadget guy that I am. I have other "gadgets" I would like to incorporate, but they merely require "on/off" functionality so as long as your inputs are still user definable, integration should be relatively easy. So you say no one has ever reached your 32 input limit? If I get the opportunity to do my dream build, with all of my planned gadgets, I may test the limits of your system ;) .

I wrote to Troy last week he told me he should have something to show us very soon.
he is just waiting to get the screen enclosure back from the mold makers.

Hi Folks, I'm a little late to this party, so I just finished reading all 62 posts on this thread. I find the MiMod concept intriguing and think that this is something that I would be interested in incorporating into my build.

However; I have some questions and hope that one of you can help me out.
  1. I understand that the MiMod screen will control such features as a radio, back-up camera, radar detector. Question: does the $2,300 figure include the radio tuner, camera and radar detector. Or will I have buy each of these items and wire them into the MiMod?
  2. How many members have signed on to the group purchase so far?
  3. Has the selection of the accessories and the design of the screen been finalized yet?
  4. If more than 5 members place an order will that reduce the price any? I noticed in one of the early posts that there was a figure of “around $1,800” mentioned and now we are talking about $2,300 and I'm unable to determine what changed other than the price!
  5. Presently owning 6- V1 Valentine radar detectors, I am partial to the V1 and think that it is a superior product to the Escort 9500. Also, I would like to see a clock and a outside temperature gauge (OAT) incorporated into the display.
  6. Here is a list of minimum features I would like to see in the SLC MiMod.
    Center Dash Screen Display:
    Vintage Air Controls
    Radio
    GPS
Full Time Rear View Camera w/IR
    Valentine V1
    Clock
    Outside Temperature Gauge
    Transaxel Temp Gauge
    Center Dash Switches:
    Switches:Secondary Fuel Pump
    Radiator Fans (default “ON”)
    Oil Cooler Fans
    Inter Cooler
Interior Lights (unless this feature already exists non the GM supplied steering column stalk)
Having not yet taken delivery of my car or having the opportunity to see the SLC supplied DigiDash, I assume that the speedometer, tachometer, odometer fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, water temperature gauge and volt meter are all contained within the DigiDash unit.

There has been some mention of putting such items a: Ignition/Starter Switch, Lift Switch, Headlight Switch, Running Light Switch and Horn in the “Center Dash Screen Display; IMO, this could be possible safety hazard to do this.

Also, the video demo showed having to enter a security code to access the MiMod System, I don't want to have to enter a code each time I want to use the system.

I haven't got much input here but I seriously doubt for $2300 it would include a radar detector, at least not one worth having anyway.

As for the V1 being a 'superior' product over the 9500, that is extremely debatable though I guess probably not one for here.

It is definately capable of doing all that and more, what I am waiting to see is custom case that fits into the SL-C dash, it is to look factory. Troy will taylor them to do what ever you would like them to do or look like. I am pretty sure the rear view camera is included in that cost.

Hello People here's an update on the Mimod for those who are interested.
Troy has them ready to go, we can get a price break if we were to do a group buy. You can have them made custom to your needs and the face plate can be had with or without the SL-C logo.
Cheers,

Wow! Great job getting that together Grant...it looks nice

It won't fit in with my interior design, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of interest for the group buy.

You guys are doing a marvelous job on gathering the software and hardware for these custom displays and controls.

Question for everyone: what, in the end, does everyone want their SL-C's controls and information displays to look like? How do you want your SL-C's controls to operate?

A current rally car, the 2013 Volkswagen Polo R WRC, displays its information succinctly and without frills:

Ferrari has integrated their controls and information displays into the interior of their new LaFerrari than Volkwagen did with their Polo WRC:

As has McLaren for their new P1:

An example on the more luxurious side is the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta's instrumentation:

I noticed that all of these cars are designed to go fast very well. All of these cars separate information displays and controls. Controls are physical, whereas information is digital.

Why did they choose that?

Should we emulate them? Why or why not?

In sum, what do you want your displays to look like? How do you want your controls?

Hope this helps.

Les :)

That might be a difficult question to answer since everyone has different tastes and something like this is highly customizable... That being said, there are probably a few common features that would make using a system like as user friendly as possible for a "basic/standard" setup that would come with the system until a customer wanted to customize it.....

1. Large buttons on the touchscreen that are easily visible and can be manipulated while driving (i.e. windows, lights, etc).

2. Simple and intuitive menu/sub menu structure. This is obviously somewhat subjective and may need a couple iterations with test mules to come to at least an 80% solution.

3. For those who want to have digital gauges by using the "ahead of driver" screen (like me :) ), the ability to overlay basic data on any non-gauge screen would be nice. For example, if you had the IR image displayed on the front screen (like the FLIR system I posted above) have basic info such as speed and rpm overlaid on the image.

4. Try to keep the displays as simple as less cluttered as possible. Again, somewhat subjective and may need some test mules to fine tune, but too much info/buttons on the screen can be a distraction while driving.

I am sure others have ideas as well. I know for my build, other than turn signals on the steering column, I would want this system to control everything (i.e. no additional buttons or switches in the car). But of course the beauty of a system like this is its customizability.

Yos this wasn't me, it is all Troy @ EV Instruments he has put the Mimod together and has made a custom fit screen for the SL-C.
It will keep the interior clean and will operate all the goodies you could want in the car.
As for an ahead of driver screen I am sure if someone is interested Troy will make one to fit the dash and configure it any way you wish.
Cheers,

Although I'm not scheduled to take delivery of my SLC until mid-May, I want to be included in the Mimod group purchase!

How many owners have committed to the group purchase and what is the expected delivery time after the order is placed?

Thanks,
Jim

Since I am the person that brought this subject up, I figure I should also post some bad news also.

Over on Pro-Touring . com
The seems to be an issue with the product being delivered in a timely manner. A few people have been waiting over 2 years to get theres. Other issue it seams is there are more bugs and glitches than some are lead to believe.

Just want to give a heads up.

I didn't want to rain on the thread but if you have in the slightest any computer knowledge, for 4k you could build your own using something like Centrafuse that would do most of the same.

Like most things DIY it WON'T be glitch free and it will require constant tweaking and attention. This, like MiMod will never be as good and glitch free as a controlled and heavily funded System you find in a Ford for example (Sync)

Wow thanks for the heads up on that one. Thats to bad they seemed to be a straight up people. I guess this may be a back to the drawing board issue.

Rebecca, although I 'm disappointed to hear the news, I really appreciate you giving us the heads-up before I took the plunge!

I really loved the Mimond concept and am wondering if there is there an alternate plan “B”...a company that makes a similar product.

Any feedback would be deeply appreciated.

Isn't ISIS beginning to develope something of this type? Or is their new panel display just for systems function?

MICHAEL

I plan on making an entire new dash and center console and will be using a 10" display to show data that I want. I will still keep the Kosko as I really like that, but will make it integrate into the dash layout I am thinking about. It will be a full datalogging system and can connect the CAN bus to get that info. I will use it to trigger fans and other relays when done as needed. I thought about the minimod, but at 2500 or so I was like nah. This should cost about 1/5 of that and be open source enough for the geeks in us or out there to do something really specific to their applications. I am on the list to get two of these units. I will test out one in my car car first and then put it in the SLC. I plan to start my SLC build in April so maybe end of summer I will be doing this, just collecting parts on this right now, but that is the plan.

I also might try to add some wireless buttons to the steering wheel, like the 458, to control as much as I can from that and keep the console area as clean as I can. If I can find a wireless system that can control a bunch of buttons for this type would be a help. Anyone know of anything?

Edit:
I found a 12 channel RF one I could use and control what I want and need. Goto love ebay sometimes.

Yes. ISIS already has a 7" touchscreen that can be configured to to operate any switched load connected to the ISIS system. However the ISIS system is not as "refined" as this system seemed to indicate. That being said, the ISIS only system with the touchscreen could still be a very nice set-up, and the route I was planning to go before I saw this.

Hopefully this system will be ready for prime time by the time I am able to start my build......
