Fling SLC Build Thread

pics are directly from my computer... not photo bucket. They are showing on my computer. CONFUSED for sure.

You can't point to pics on your computer- or else we all wouldn't need a hosting service like Photobucket.

Ron posted the method to post pics; that seems to work for most people.

I have been using pb for about 10 years and have never paid a dime. They have told me many times over the years I surpassed the limit, but they just keep adding more space anyways.
Hopefully you can get the pic thing figured out, curious to see the progress.

I can't see the pics either.

I am frustrated that I cannot download pics. I am not a total computer idiot.Used to be able to just fine via photo bucket. I have the instructions from moderator... no luck. Have a new Mac with images saved in "photos". I assume I cannot download because jpeg size is too large? 1-2 mg and it states 976 kb max size. How do you reduce file size without importing to PS and resaving?

Right click the picture and click " Open with" . Choose "Paint" In the upper left corner you will see " resize" . There will be horizontal and vertical values of 100. Change BOTH of the to the percentage that you would like to downsize the pic to and click enter. Now save it and you're done. If you want to keep the original size pic , save the new version as something different as the first ( I usually just add a 2 to the pic name)

I think the easiest approach is this: select the photos in Photos you want to post and right click. The right click menu will offer the option of "sharing" the photos. Choose this and choose to share via email. You will be offered small medium and large file size. Choose small or medium and email the photos to yourself. Then open the email and drag and drop the photos (.jpeg files) to your desktop. Now you can upload the photos easily into your post and the file size will be no problem.

Thanks for the build log.
Sure wish Photobucket hadn't done what they did. Frustrating to not be able to "see" what is being described. Seems there's a lot of very interesting mods going on.

I have been slow and steady on the car. I now have photoshop which gives me the ability to reduce image file size.... thus the update. KEEP IN MIND AS YOU VIEW THIS...I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH THIS STUFF AND OFTEN I FEEL LOST. Many thanks to my friends Craig Sinasac, Alan the Stud and David Schlemmer for your help and direction.

My hope is to create a car that has a bit of a retro feel. I will have to have several posts as I believe You can post 5 images at a time. So... here we go-

Rear Hood Vents- I wanted to eliminate the rear window... keeps people guessing. I leveled the recess and added fiberglass vents to improve cooling.

Splash Guards- The rear wheel guards are connected to the rear body and supported with an adjustable rod/Heim jts.

NASA Vents-Behind doors. Note the high tech use of flexible guttering to direct air into engine bay.

Roof Scoop- I learned a great technique that can save tons of time. Go to Hobby Lobby and buy the scrap lexan material that they use to serve as glass over pictures. Cut to shape, roughen and panel bond. This will save tons of time with fabrication. This is what was used to create the "tunnel" from the front roof scoop passing air back to the cold air box . BTW- I love the shape of this scoop too!

Windshield-Windows- Note that the side windows don't extend to the front of the door. Fiberglass was added so the leading edge is not the lexan side window. I also fiberglassed around my glass windscreen, building up the "A Pillars" so they are flush with the glass. I have a DOT approved lexan windshield for final install. Thus there will be no gasket but instead a smooth transition from windscreen to body, body to side windows.

Accusump- An access panel was added on the side to service the Accusump and E Stopp. You can also see that I modified the rear inlet.

Tail Lights- Body was modified for ring LED Tail lights

Rear Wing-A support was fabricated that incorporates with the rear hinge. The wing supports connect to this transferring down force to the chassis.A second wing was fabricated just because I think it looks cool.

Rear Tow Hook. A rear hook also extends from the hinge area. You can see the rear diffuser was modified to cover the back of the transaxle.

Transaxle-the ol heat gun was used to remove the black stuff

Note that fans are placed over the rear screen vent to exhaust for air. The body behind the rear tires was vented too.

Foot Pedals- A motor was added to move the foot pedal assembly.

Gears- Guess who got new gears installed?

Front Nose-New fans up front, a hinged front end, and you see the vents formed for air escape from the radiator. I think it makes the front end look killer!
I also modified the center section extending fiberglass all the way across.

Headlights-Of course the head lights... I wanted a more dramatic front end. While it gives it a little retro look, LED's and ring lights make it modern too.

Brake Cooling-Front brake air hose assembly should help. I fabricated tunnels from the HL lexan. The PVC lines up nicely with the ducting when closed.

Dash-Dash supports have rubber stoppers that will hopefully reduce rattles. Removable access panels make repair more manageable.

Special thanks to Craig with wiring! When my electric doors open (TY Alan), 2 LED dome lights, 2 LED's from the center console, and 2 LED's under the dash come on. They turn off when doors close. However they are switched so they can come on when the center console button is pressed (and doors are closed).

All of my buttons have custom logos and are "ring Light".The buttons on the ceiling console are...

POWER
HAZARDS
Driver Door
Passenger Door
Driver Map Light
Passenger Map Light

Center console buttons operate...

Engine bay LED's
Front trunk LED
Glove box LED
Off/On dome lights

You can see that I have aircraft style vents in the ceiling for bring air from the roof tunnel.

I HAVE SPENT SO MUCH TIME RECENTLY REWIRING THE ENTIRE CAR. BTW- I AM AMAZED BY THE CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT JAY HARRIS PROVIDES. I DECIDED TO SOLDER EVERY CONNECTION AND UTILIZE PIN CONNECTORS WHERE PARTS NEED TO BE SEPARATED. I JUST GOT NERVOUS WITH CRIMP CONNECTORS?

I am using the Autometer LCD Dash. It is fully configurable and customizable. (I respectfully defer all questions to Craig. If you want to know about teeth, feel free to ask me). It shows milage, GPS speed, when the sun sets etc. It looks awesome too.

I am also using a back up/rear view camera(s). One is wide angle and the other close up. 1 or both can be displayed. Its also has a back up grid.

The car is at the interior shop now having preliminary fitment of panels. WE are waiting on the new RCR gated shifter (Please Fran- I need it). Then off to body work. I have had a change in exterior and interior finish. Stay tuned...

One last thing...

With a helmet on, I just don't have the space I want. So... I am having custom seats (very simple) made much like the old days. In my formula car, I sit on the frame panels with a poured seat. I will have a similar solution keeping me with maximum room. A seat much like this ON IN A GT40 will be made. A spacer will/can be added behind it to bring it forward SO MY WIFE CAN REACH THE PEDALS.

A few more pics... hope it inspires others to greatness!

ONE LAST THING I WANT TO MENTION... FOR THOSE WHO HAVE ELECTRIC DOORS. I HAVE A PIN THAT GOES THOUGH THE DOOR/ARM CONNECTION. THE PIN HAS AIRCRAFT WIRE SECURED TO IT WHICH TRAVELS THROUGH THE BODY INTO THE INTERIOR. IF A FIRE SHOULD OCCUR OR MY WIFE IS PISSED OFF AND I CANT GET THE DOORS OPEN, PULL THE WIRE HANDLE AND THE DOOR IS DISCONNECTED.

Sweet update Mike, great to see all the progress! Can't wait to see it all wrapped up and on the road, seems like you're just about there.

Smokes! That is a heck of a lot of work in those assembled pictures, some really nice features built in there. Since I just fitted my overhead interior lighting pod, I am particularly liking your overhead panel.

All very impressive.
