A bit of reality for the Druids out there!

Yes they have. It would behoove everyone if they would juxtapose the Al Gore updates with findings that don't agree with his stance. I have always said that "stating the facts", as so many people claim, is not the whole story. In the true effort to be honest, one must state all the facts.

Here's an objective question that a truly neutral party on the "outside" of the debate would ask:

"If someone disregards scientific research on the grounds of it providing self-fulfilling needs and whatever other reasons that seem fit when they don't agree with the results of that research, why would that same person turn to scientific research in the same field when they do agree with those results?"

And you can't answer with hind-sight regarding what transpired with any particular studies in the past. I see day after day the same people who disregarded scientific studies on their own personal belief that the information was wrong now accepting other scientific studies at face value when it supports their side of the argument.

Now, I know there are people doing this on both sides of the argument, and the question is valid for all parties. I hope we here are the objective ones who truly take in the various information, question its validity, but in the end give research that supports both sides of the argument equal weight.

Chris, great point!

“Anyone who claims that the debate is over and the conclusions are firm has a fundamentally unscientific approach to one of the most momentous issues of our time.” - Solar physicist Dr. Pal Brekke, senior advisor to the Norwegian Space Centre in Oslo. Brekke has published more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific articles on the sun and solar interaction with the Earth.

“It is a blatant lie put forth in the media that makes it seem there is only a fringe of scientists who don’t buy into anthropogenic global warming.” - U.S Government Atmospheric Scientist Stanley B. Goldenberg of the Hurricane Research Division of NOAA.

“Even doubling or tripling the amount of carbon dioxide will virtually have little impact, as water vapour and water condensed on particles as clouds dominate the worldwide scene and always will.” – . Geoffrey G. Duffy, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Auckland, NZ.

“After reading [UN IPCC chairman] Pachauri's asinine comment [comparing skeptics to] Flat Earthers, it's hard to remain quiet.” - Climate statistician Dr. William M. Briggs, who specializes in the statistics of forecast evaluation, serves on the American Meteorological Society's Probability and Statistics Committee and is an Associate Editor of Monthly Weather Review.

“The Kyoto theorists have put the cart before the horse. It is global warming that triggers higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, not the other way round…A large number of critical documents submitted at the 1995 U.N. conference in Madrid vanished without a trace. As a result, the discussion was one-sided and heavily biased, and the U.N. declared global warming to be a scientific fact,” Andrei Kapitsa, a Russian geographer and Antarctic ice core researcher.

“CO2 emissions make absolutely no difference one way or another….Every scientist knows this, but it doesn’t pay to say so…Global warming, as a political vehicle, keeps Europeans in the driver’s seat and developing nations walking barefoot.” - Dr. Takeda Kunihiko, vice-chancellor of the Institute of Science and Technology Research at Chubu University in Japan.

“The ‘global warming scare’ is being used as a political tool to increase government control over American lives, incomes and decision making. It has no place in the Society's activities.” - Award-Winning NASA Astronaut/Geologist and Moonwalker Jack Schmitt who flew on the Apollo 17 mission and formerly of the Norwegian Geological Survey and for the U.S. Geological Survey.

“Earth has cooled since 1998 in defiance of the predictions by the UN-IPCC….The global temperature for 2007 was the coldest in a decade and the coldest of the millennium…which is why ‘global warming’ is now called ‘climate change.’” - Climatologist Dr. Richard Keen of the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of Colorado.

I suppose if I had time that wasn't dedicated to ensuring my employer was getting what he was paying for, I could scrape up nine 'important' counter-opinions. But Bob, you've convinced me...the world is cooler than before, flatter than ever before, and as a "Druid", fully embrace other's opinions as my own, I thank you for enlightening me beyond my capability, having to patience to do so, and freeing me from the schackles of critical thought.

Now I'm going to go lay out in the gutter for the weekend and get my self-respect back.

Regarding the international scientific consensus on anthropogenic climate change, Schmitt has said that "[t]he CO2 scare is a red herring",[15] that the "global warming scare is being used as a political tool to increase government control over American lives, incomes and decision-making," and that scientists who might otherwise challenge prevailing views on climate change dare not do so for fear of losing funding.[16]

Likewise, in a 2009 interview with conservative talk-radio host Alex Jones, Schmitt asserted a link between Soviet Communism and the American environmental movement: "I think the whole trend really began with the fall of the Soviet Union. Because the great champion of the opponents of liberty, namely communism, had to find some other place to go and they basically went into the environmental movement."[17]

I love Druids. All that dancing around in the forest naked as a Jay bird..

I'm a would be Druid.... if only I could get my scooter to the woods, but dancing days are over I'm afraid..

Had a drink once with Arthur Pendragon, and I have to say I found him comfortably bonkers, but there's nothing at all wrong with that. My last girlfriend was also an 'Earth Mother' who some unbelievers would describe as a 'White Witch.' I know not, but she had some very, er, special personal skills I must say.. :)

But, it strikes me that we may have found an epic candidate for our next Wicker Man.

Thanks for volunteering Bob..

Yes Bob, but they also have an open mind....

BTW, you still haven't come back to me regarding your understanding of the National Socialist (Nazi) party being "Liberal".

Just thought I'd jog your memory on that one.

Graham there is this phenomenon in the US where "conservatives" have challenged the traditional labelling of the Nazis as "far right" by historians and political scientists, and have attempted to portray Naziism as an outgrowth of the progressive movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

It's a bizarre Orwellian rewrite of history and given some of the tidbits Lonesome Nutjob has posted, I suspect he's gotten wind of some of it from some of the www.righthinkingeveryonethinksthesamewehateluberals.com webistes he visits.

They apparently don't like the idea that the "endgame" for extremism on the right is authoritarian regimes like Hitlers (just like the endgame for extremism on the left are things like authoritarian regimes like Stalin's).

Bizarre really. But, the internet has certainly exposed the dark underbelly of American politics and society, and this is one example of it.

Consider that when Mikhail Gorbachev was supreme dictator of the soviet Union he presided over one of the world's dirtiest environments. Being a dictator, you'd think he'd have ordered some kind of a token clean up, but no, he didn't do a thing.

But, soon after losing power, he decides it's his duty to clean up the world and he founds "Green Cross." Timing seems to be everything.

If you two punks are so hot to debate Nazi ideology open up a new thread and we'll have a go.
