AK SPORTS CAR GT40

It seems you made a mistake on the Argon price. A 20m3 Argon 200bars should be in the range of 100£.
Anyway, and for this type of car that will be used a very small quantity of hours in a 10 or 20 years period, you probably may skip the Argon flush on the inside during welding. Yes , the inside will probably rust but it is proportionnal to the frequency and time the car will be used.

prob correct on argon..
I don't use it much, so I use the SGS BOTTLES and they are £150 for 20 litres and available locally.
Purging gave a much better finish inside the pipes.

Not been updating lately so here goes with the latest:
played around with the rear alignment and got into all sorts of knots...
then finally sorted it out..
too long and winded to explain in words so here is a video of my endeavours :

I decided that I needed some form of air filteration on the intake trumpets.
Not wanting to put huge air filters and cover up the trumpets i came up with an idea that might be of interest to others.
As this engine will be doing a low mileage I decided that I just needed something to keep out the large particles ( small stones. )

Again quite involved in making these so i have made a video and its here :
and picture below :

DecIded to have a go at some spraying as the weather is nice and hot at the moment...

Bought a VELOR 2 compartment blowup spray booth and an £80 spray gun...
Last time i did any spraying was 50 years ago....things have moved on since then so this is first attempt using a HVLP with the paint pot on top...!!!!!

Tent went up a treat
video is here :

Spraying 2 part gloss solid red ( mazda red , 2 to 1 with 20% thinners ) so NO laquer required...

Thought I would try spraying the sills first as a nice uncomplicated shape.
filled and sanded with 400 grit for prep.
2 coats of 2 part high build primer.....very orange peel effect.....lots of sanding ( too low pressure / too much paint. not atomising !!!
Changed gun setting for red coat...more pressure and less paint...
Laid down 3 coats allowing to flash off in between. in this heat wave about 3 minutes !!!
much better and a far better finish that i could have hoped for..
Will need a bit of work when finally cured but 100 times better than i had expected...
If the rest of the spraying comes out like this then i will be a very happy chappy.

I have now sprayed the doors and trimmed them out together with the rad cover and fuel cap covers.
Also fabricated / 3 d printed up a couple of simple security locks for the rear clam.
Added some rubber protection to stop the rain coming in !
And a couple of fans to cool the headers..
pictures below :
Also made a youtube vid as usual.... see it here :

Hi Jerry,
Just had a read/look through your build thread ...... all good stuff. I'll make a couple of points just in case you are not aware.
Re your engine, as I'm sure you are aware, due to it's age it should be 'visible smoke' test only. However, there has recently been a problem with regard to Engine Dating Certificates no longer being accepted. I suggest you talk to Jon at AK as he has recently had conversations with the 'authorities' regarding this and has subsequently got a car through IVA.
I had a look at the pictures of your steps into the world of spraying ...... well done (I like the inflatable booth). I looked closely at the door to make sure you had not drilled the holes for the side windows fixings. As I suspect you know, the side windows not being glass (with appropriate markings) are an IVA FAIL. Most cars are presented without side windows BUT there must be no evidence that the car has been prepped for windows. I recently saw a car that was beautifully finished including the fitting of the perspex side windows and to avoid a heated discussion I backed away from telling the builder it would be a fail.
Finally, try and get your car into IVA as soon as possible. The current government has openly stated that it intends to adopt all European safety features on all 'New' cars. This could have massive implications for IVA. So far there has been no communication regarding this with 'Kit' or 'Small Volume Manufactures'. A group of us are trying our best to track any proposed legislation changes.
Best regards
Steve.

Hope and its a BIG hope to be in IVA end of year ....
Thanks again Steve.....
