Take the US Air Force Fighter Pilot Test!!

This one will drive you nuts guaranteed.

The object of the game is to move the red block

around without getting hit by the blue blocks or
touching the black walls.

If you can go longer than 18 seconds you are phenomenal and your
name is Michael Schumacher or similar.

It's been said that the US Air Force uses this for

fighter pilots. They are expected to go for at least 2 minutes.

Give it a try!! Let me know how you get on and then I'll

tell you how I did before I threw my monitor out through the window...

Good Luck.....

OK--I tried and it took about 20 tries to get past 2 seconds. I was ready to throw the mouse through the monitor when I figured out the pattern. Go to the center of the bottom first and let the black boxes converge in the center.

At first, I typed in the next couple of moves, but on second thought I went back and erased that part. I'll post it after a few others have had the chance to post their experiences.

Watch out for the walls. Jerky movements with the mouse will crash you into the perimeter much more quickly than the blocks will get you. Smoooooth movements, that's the key! I eventually managed 15 seconds and with a bit more practice I'm sure 18 seconds would be achievable--that is, unless I do throw this mouse through the monitor. On second thought, maybe I ought to just curse and throw tools like I do when I am working on car repairs. No---well, maybe!

Good one, Keith! But, 2 minutes???? That would take a lot of cursing and tool throwing, and I'm not sure I could even get there at all.

Easy enough to start with a 10 sec stint, move down slightly immediately upon start and then swing up and and then left into the top left corner once the immediate danger is clear. Hang there until the 9.7 sec mark (keep count) and work straight down the page. This is where you need to get creative......

Just clocked 31.252 sec and have my arm in a sling......

First attempt 53 seconds
No blocks moved so easy buy a MAC - finally went to the wall to see if it was working

Have to try it in the office

You guys, you guys....rockonsmile

Awesome!

You didn't disappoint me at all.

A mixture of manual dexterity mixed with a cutting edge analytical evaluation and pure luck. All the attributes needed to build a '40...

Way to go.

I had just returned from a lunch date in Cherbourg and I guess my timing was way out. Didn't even last 5 seconds but I will try again as soon as I have retrieved my monitor from the hedge.;)

Bill has the pattern down--once you have the red square down in the lower left corner, keep an eye out for the horizontal rectangle--it will be moving from lower right to upper left. Soon as it passes, move the red square to the center. At that point you just have to move it slowly about the center to avoid the blocks until about 23 seconds. I'm still working on it after that.

But, Kieth, come on--consistently lasting 2 minutes??? My dad was a fighter pilot in WWII, stationed in England, and this gives me newfound respect for that aspect of his life. He always said the USAF was picky about their pilot candidates--I suspect there may have been more to what he said than I realized.

Doug

I somehow doubt the US Airforce uses this to test pilots and wants two minutes, but I'm a skeptical SOB. Managed 33.XXX with five tries, going to try it at lunch and see what I come up with.

You got me there! It's Al's fault. Ever since he convinced me to completely switch to Firefox I lost my Google Toolbar spell checker. And, now my vocabulary has to be toned down to match my spelling capabilities. I think skeptical must have crossed the line! :D

How do you guys get timed? I got something like 27 seconds on one of the first ten attempts. But that was counting in my head.

It's an auto pop up timer. You've been counting whilst moving??

That's what I call multi-tasking! rockonsmile

Maybe something on your system defeats the pop-up?
