Ferrari Forum

What's the best Ferrari Forum on the net these days?

Is there anything as good GT40s.com? Ferrari Chat seems pretty good, but can you think of any others worth a look?

I need some info for another car I'm preparing.

Ferrarichat.com is about the best out there for ferrari in my experience. However, don't expect the same extraordinary level of mechanical knowledge and experience as here on GT40s.com. Or, anywhere near the same skill levels of craftsmanship and original creativity. All of the online ferrari forums have a significant "wine and cheese" element associated with the concours crowd - debates about what polish is best, who has the most "Italian" mechanic, exactly what tools are in the factory tool kit so as to not get dinged a point in concours judging - that kind of sheit. There are technical subforms with a few people who know what they're doing but most ferrari folks are "checkbook mechanics."

Thanks Cliff, I had noticed that a little. Great term that, 'checkbook mechanics', good stuff.

Since posting, I've noticed a fair degree of Ferrari knowledge on here anyway, so maybe I'll get to some specific people and quiz them directly. Thanks again.

I Love Ferrari's its most of the owners that I can't stand. I have owned many of them and still have a couple. Very few of the owners are mechanical and only know what they have read about or heard from another person. I sold my 83 BBi to buy the GT40 and someone who is a guru on Boxers drove up from Dallas and was the biggest idiot I have ever dealt with. I sold the car to a good guy in Florida but this person from Dallas is on the Ferrari chat all the time and puts on like he knows every nut and bolt, the truth of the matter is he had never even sat in a Boxer nor drove one till mine. I am sorry for blowing off steam but I know not of any good Ferrari forums. :)

Some similar ones I've heard are "get out the checkbook tool", "the Checkwrench", and/or "use the VISA tool and fix it". I'm banned from using either of those tools and have to get on with it best I can.

LOL...Jack tell us how you really feel !
I have to agree, not much hands on knowledge in the F crowd. I guess I'm not the only one who feels better if the guy buying the car "qualifies" to do so. I once sold an engine for less just 'cause I could not stand idiot who would pay more.

I love the F cars too, and have been an owner for 21 years now. I've been looking at FChat pretty much all along, but don't post all that often. I have found that, yes, there are some real off-the-wall pompous blowhards on that forum, but there are some really good guys as well. I have found that the best feedback and most valuable info comes via the PM's. The "know-it-all's" love to pontificate on the public forums, while the guys with real helpful input will usually ping you with a private message. I sold my 308GT4 through a connection on FChat in order to get my GT40. I'm still getting good support on my Dino there. You just need to let the screwballs show their colors. ;-)

I just recently made the mistake of asking about swapping a manual trans into my friends automatic 996 Porsche 911 on the rennlist forums. I have heard that was a more technician forum, but the people that replied obviously never turned a wrench in their life! You can imagine the replies i got!

I'm on the verge of touching myself inappropriatel
There's a nice thread on FChat in the 308 section about a guy swapping in a V12 in his 308 Ferrari. If you think people on there don't have mechanical skill, you need to sign up and read the 112 pages of that thread. It will boggle your friggin mind man.

But I do agree that as a whole, Ferrari and Lamborghini owners aren't known for their mechanical abilities, but more for their financial abilities.

Yeah, there is one real clown on FerrariChat, totally doesn't know squat about
anything Ferrari or otherwise.

Goes by Napolis ...

Just kidding Jim ;)

ahahahahaha :D:D..all those are good reason to love my gt40s forum:) also if anyway ferrari chat is a big resource for infos (also a lot more of the ones u can found here in Italy)
the owners are (usually) all the same, also and even more down here.

Ps. Jack..I LOVE your post ahahahaha...

Ha ha Brave man Ian.

No, not brave :) Jim's a great guy - I've had more than a few email
conversations with him, and have had the pleasure of meeting him
in person at Pebble Beach years ago. And, my parents' house in NY is
not too far from his garage in Danbury, so one day I will take him up
on his offer of a visit

Yes that is one garage I think we would all like to visit.

Actually Ferrari chat is Imho probably the best Fcar site and the technical stuff can be found, particularly in the model specific sections.

There's one particular blow hard on fchat.com that doesn't have a friggin' clue what he's talking about - goes by "Cliffbeer". What an idiot.

One of my dream cars is the 288 GTO, in 1992 or 1993 Mike Trusty and I were at the Poconos for the Italian track event. An owner of a 288 GTO was going around the track with his car like he didn't know how to shift gears, my 208 twin turbo would have whooped his butt, so I asked him "how much boost are you making?" He replied, I have boost there is a gauge on the dash.....I walked away sick. I think it was all the gold hanging around his neck that was weighing the car down.

Ok I am done, sure to get a tongue lashing for this, but it is funny and true!
