Freight shipping options from Germany to US

I couldn't really figure out which forum to post this thread in, but since it involves my GT40 and since this forum gets the highest traffic I'm posting it here. Ron, feel free to move this thread as you see fit.

After scouring the German ebay site for over a year, I believe I may have finally located a suitable Audi 01E 6-speed transaxle. I am working with the seller (using Google's language translator, which can be interesting), and we are near striking a deal. He is currently getting prices on shipping but I would like to perform some due diligence of my own on this matter.

The seller is located in Burg, Germany, which I believe is about 150 km west of Berlin. I am located about 25 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts. Can anyone recommend a good freight service who I could contact to get a shipping quote? Any other suggestions to facilitate this transaction?

IFF or Alpha could probably help you. We use these two companies to bring our equipment in from Germany, which we re-sell. The tranny must be drained of fluid, but it probably already is. Something the customs officals checked on when I brought in those diesel boxes years ago.

Mark,

If you need any help communicating with this guy, let me know. Unfortunately Berlin is more than 10 hours from Vienna or I would try to help you pick up etc. I know that some of the Mustang guys in Germany who bring big parts in from the states really like "Baxter Global", not sure about spelling.

Also, didnt some of our UK friends on the forum have some shipping connections?

Bax Global, they are good too. We use them to send stuff to and from Germany as well and I'm sure they can handle the job for you too.

Bax have an office 5 mins walk from my house, at least that is what it says on the sign. Mark, if you need any help I'll do my best, just give me a shout.

Deutschepost own DHL so they should have have some relatively good (reliable cheap) non-urgent door-to-door service apart from full DHL courier or sea parcel post

That is scary

But then again is it going airfreight? If so between 3 and 5 days is normal for door to door.

Last year I got quotes for Fali (sp) and someone else for 2 Renault UN1

The cost was about £100 for up to 1000kg. It had to be boxed and then went in a group container which took about 16 days to float across the pond (with a good choice of USA ports)

So if it is air freight it is not a bad price and if it is sea freight he's bending you over a barrel!

Regrettably I have no contacts in Germany but my UK contact may be able to move it Germany to UK and then over at a cheaper price.

I'll give him a call if needed.

Please advise if the seller is willing to drain and pack the gearbox

thanks
Ian
