Re: MIRAGE AUTOMOTIVE - Jimmymac & Alistair & Craig's Cars

The ballast resistor assembly was most notable on the Gulf and MKII cars.
I got fed up chasing them down to get raped with high collector's prices for a consumable item so I decided to make my own.
The photos show the original item and a mould I made to cast the ceramic enclosures in any calibrated ohms resistance that we may need.
Waiting for the delivery 21swg brass flat to make the contacts.
Thanks Peter for the assistance.

re: Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars

I saw the components of the swirl tanks down there earlier today, and apart from being much shinier (and 40 years younger) are absolutely identical to the original parts they have down there.

My own requirements (being Mk.II) don't need the longitudinal tank but need a mirror of the smaller upright tank - Mirage were more than happy to build this into my spec (to the extent of replacing the LH sponsor! (Late Mk.I spec as built) with an earlier version that didn't have a rear battery mounting)

We can't blame you for that Doc.
Your talents seem endless James.
Looking awesome.

re: Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars

Peter is correct

The ability of James and the Mirage group seem unending.

I only wish that they would post new pictures and comments every 15 minuets or so!

Keep up the good work.

I have a batch of original 289 ring gears.
When offered up to the casting and my development sketch there is no rubbing and will get some fly-wheels made soon.

The first picture shows the ring-gear and the correct starter sprocket.
The next shot shows an original starter motor in its orange racing engine paint.

Hope I’m not butting in. I ran a crossed a guy that had the molds in the included picture. Is this the bellhousing you are trying to make? If it is would you like this name?

I'ts very nice work if I may say and exactly what I need.
I enjoy these problems and I am about half way there with my own version now, however many thanks for the kind offer of help.

A Merry Christmas to you,

re: Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars

Found a picture of the finished bellhousing ZF (type 0 or 1, with 4 bolt front mounting). Hope this helps.

The Surge Tanks are almost complete.
The welding is finished with only the nozzles and hucks outstanding.

re: Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars

I've been getting more parts recently including original rear lights as used on the early MKI cars.

My rear clip will need modification to fit a pair of these with the amber indicators below them.
Luckily we have an original clip with traces of the original light placements before it was later changed to the Marchals.
So I don't foresee any problems.

Sorry James my mistake, yet again you put me back on the straight and narrow. BTW I would much appreciate it if you could take a few snaps of my rear clip when you get the opportunity I believe its painted yellow with silver strips in the Beaurleys (spelling) P1040 colours. I also appreciate you keeping me informed of Rays progress via this thread, work commitments and general life are preventing me getting up to see Ray as much as I would like.

re: Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars

Hi Jimmy

Looking good mate I am very pleased that you guys are getting closer to your dream.
I remeber painting Docs tail section to get the rear clip mould from it after hours of prep fitting the rear arches.

Regards

Chris.
