SouthernGT Number 18

Thanks all, finally looking like a car and I'm getting very excited now...Thanks all, finally looking like a car and I'm getting very excited now...

Hi Paul

I think we met up at the British welcome in Le Mans a few years ago. The car is looking fantastic. Unfortunately I have now sold my GT40, and moved on, but I really hope you have as much fun and enjoyment as I had with my GT40 over the last 25 years.

I'll look forward to seeing you and your car at Le Mans soon !!

All the best

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Apologies only just read your post, I really don't check here enough...

Sad to hear you are GT40 less now but hope you have found a suitable upgrade?

Thank you for your kind words about my car and yes it will definitely make it to either the Le Mans Classic in 2018 or the main event in 2019, the latter looking sadly more likely despite my best efforts (bloody expensive hobby this).

Are you in Le Mans this year? We will be going again as we do every year and will endeavour to make the GBW again.

Regards

Any update? Love this build

Mike

Thanks Mike.

Thought it was probably time for a little update as things have moved on a bit...

Hoping for IVA in September

On the floor this week...

Apologies not sure why there are so many duplicate photos?

Nice looking stands !! Just spent the last hour downloading your photos, got to say they are going to make the start of my build so much easier, just sorting the workshop, getting ready for the first rivet, of many, will start a build log once I have begun....Gulp :)

I sure will, the ones on this build diary are great info really makes a difference, if only SGT could sort their email I could ask them some questions (I have to send Mick a photo then call). Happy days

Exhaust back boxes adjusted, tip moved over and sealed on ready for IVA, they may still need some tweaking to the collectors to get them lined up for final fit (not fitted the rear clip back on yet, that’s one of tomorrow’s jobs) but that can be done when the headers come off for ceramic coating after IVA (can’t afford it before)...

Windscreen fitting next week if they can fit me in.

Hi Paul,
Glad to see you're making good progress, engine start-up is always a great milestone. Regarding the windscreen fittings, as they are generally bonded in, I would recommend getting the screen permanently fitted after the vehicle has been IVA’d & painted
When I presented mine for the IVA, the screen was located via a blobs of silicone and black electrical tape to weatherproof it for the test. It’s much easier to work on the dash with the screen removed and it needed final finishing as part of refit activities post paint and IVA

Andy

Slow down I'll never catch you up at your pace :)
Quick question is that alloy washer bottle ok for IVA? I have the naff plastic one fitted at the moment as I didn't think the alloy ones were allowed...Until after IVA that is!!!

Thanks Andy, the dash is in for good now so allbeing well will not need to come out again so with that in mind and also the fact I want to get a few miles on it as a shake down before paint I think I’ll get it done pre IVA, I no this is what SGT do with the cars they IVA.

Cheers Shaun, no reason for the ally bottle to fail, just need to make sure it meets criteria for volume etc...

Cheers, ally it is then, I have ordered one anyway so I can set the pipes in the right place, will check IVA size and make sure its compliant now

Got mine and it was too tall but then saw you have sunk the pump into the panel, genius!! I did not like the look of the pump anyway.
On your brake fluid caps, did you have to shorten / modify them as mine seem too tall for the Wilwood reservoirs? Only ones I can seem to find....
