Russ, my kids are in 4th grade and 6th grade. I would like to think that some of this is something my family can share together as I approach the 4th year of construction. Maybe not. Using your logic, is it then acceptable to start a thread about the best oral sex pictures? Verbal humor is far different from visual images. I highly value the information and knowledge base this forum has to offer, but if it also means I have to be careful about what next might show up, then I'll have to pass.

By the way, Oliver did send a note which I greatly appreciated.

Sorry Pat, all I said was I thought I had missed something. I'm not sure how you can go from that to your statement above? I stand by my other comments.

I also point out that whilst you obviously control and supervise what your kids see and do on TV and the net, there are many less responsible parents who don't. And their kids are privy to all sorts of mind boggling input which is then shared in a secretive and furtive manner amongst their mates at school. Much better I would have thought to have the relatively mild things on this forum out in the open where you can deal with them on the home front as they arise. Then your kids won't really be interested in playground half truths and innuendo. It's like alcohol, treat your kids like adults, discuss it with them, show them responsible usage as part of everyday life and they're more likely not to go out binge drinking with their mates.

Please don't say that using my logic I am advocating sex for school children. Clearly I am not. Sorry Pat just getting in first!!

Also I do agree with you that this sort of thing should be kept out of the GT40 side of the forum but I think there IS a place in Off Topics for some of the harmless humour and jokes that I'm sure the majority of members have enjoyed recently. You'll notice I haven't posted any 'off" jokes or pseudo porn as I'm not sufficiently interested to do that, but I do get a good laugh from many of the postings and forward quite a few of them to my mates (both men and women) around the world.

A good guideline to a happy and interesting life is "everything in moderation".

Ten deep breaths, a few steps back and take look at what is going on here. There is a lowest common denominator here, we all know it but we still get sucked in. I don’t know how much longer we can let one individual drag this site down to the current lows that it has sunk to at present. The only approach is to ignore the pokes in the ribs, don’t even reply or make references, just add to the useful contributions that many of you are so good at, don’t forget the humour along the way and stop niggling amongst ourselves…There will be no winners out of this type of crap. Well said Hilly - it is just human nature to respond to taunts from twerps like Oliver, particularly if they start from such a low baseline & present such an easy target !

I am as guilty as anyone in terms of responding to him from time to time - I have tried the full range - from polite suggestions that he lift his game, through to some fairly denigrating comments. Nothing works with this guy - "any attention is good attention" in his tiny mind, so your suggestion regarding everyone totally ignoring him has got to be the only solution. After all, it would simply be the total withdrawl of the very thing he craves - attention.

Its just a pity that he finally got a GT40 - if his road manners are anything like his Forum manners, then we will all suffer through association !

It also occurs to me (somewhat belatedly) that most of us only have limited time available for interaction on the Forum. I for one have wasted silly amounts of time on Oliver, when I could have been learning something or helping someone out with a problem.

No more responses to Oliver from me (I promise) !

I must comment, I've had a lot of heat of over the decision to let Oliver/John back on the forum. I made the decision because John promised that he'd behave, not post to agitate, not personally attack members, and to quit hounding the RF saga. The results have been mixed.

I've asked Oliver to adopt his real name and pick an avatar that doesn't get changed every two days to attract attention. I would be pleased if he'd do this, and maintain a decent composure on the forum.

I've spoken to John once on the phone and he comes across as a nice fellow. But his forum behavior is a different thing. Since he has been on the forum, round about September or October of last year, the forum has taken on a new "flavor" on a few threads which I don't care for. I want www.gt40s.com to be a site with an extremely high signal to noise ratio and will do what is needed to keep it there. Our membership is strong, extremely knowledgeable, and is largely civil in discussions and exchanges.

I am at the end of my rope with the situation, not only because of my feelings of proper behavour on the site, but because I'm tired of dealing with it. I have to write emails to John politely asking him to behave, I have to write emails to people that complain about him, and I have to make posts like this. It uses time, and with the recent RF situation free time is something I've had very little of in the last few weeks. So, that is my stance as the sole remaining administrator (Lynn is MIA) and if I don't see some marked changes that are permanent then I'm going to eliminate the situation by removing Oliver/John from the forum - rightly or wrongly. I just don't have time to fool with it.

Yes I been contraversial but the people attacking me with remarks of profantity cut downs and personal messeges for what they think of me are equally as guilty if not more a degenerate than me. It seems that there is a double standard here. It seems OK that everybody can attack me for what I say...but knowbody says anything about them. IT's Like " DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO" type of standard. Remember this is a FREE speach society. If you don't like my threads, Simply don't respond or read them. Don't decide to read them and then if you don't like respond by saying. ie. And then boast how much good you contribute to this forum and tattle tale to Ron how much you want me off the forum. Silly!

Oliver, whilst I have not been one of your detractors, I am not really one of your supporters either, although I have posted supportively on occasion.

I have no axe to grind either way but I feel in fairness to Ron who has put together an excellent and enjoyable resource for you and all of us to use, that perhaps it would do you no harm and maybe a lot of good to respect his wishes.

When you returned to the forum your posts were a lot more restrained and I felt that was good, but you have eventually responded to taunts that maybe people shouldn't have made and it has gone down hill from there. You are saying to people who don't like you to ignore your postings. That is a good idea. I would say to you also to ignore and not respond to posts that you don't like.

Just my relatively unbiased opinion. Please give it some consideration.

Oliver you have your supporters and you are capable of "fitting in" but whether you want to or not is your decision. I would say that you have more than proved your point and now is probably a good time to rest on your laurels and take stock, build your car and share your GT40 experiences with all the other good folk on here. Beyond that general involvement and you most certainly will be excluded, and before you say "who cares" I would say that almost certainly Ron does as he hates doing this. So keep your "fans" happy and keep posting within reasonable limits - never mind the naysayers. It's all about the cars, nothing else.

I'm more of a reader than a poster and am of the opinion that everybody has a right to their own view, that being said without Ron's site I would still be building plastic models of a GT40 rather than a real car. The information here is priceless and I have the utmost respect for Ron and what he does. As for Oliver.... well I havent been on the sharp end of his keyboard... watch this space...lol... but find his comments amusing (is now a good time to ask for a 48IDA dvd John?) I say live and let live but its not my site and I will always respect Rons views.

I do enough lecturing during the day without doing it here so had better stop now.....

Personally I also would have preferred not to have seen this thread here at all but with things now coming to a head it may have served a worthwhile purpose.

One distinction I make is that this is the "Off Topics Post" forum - basically this is for just about anything. The posts on the rest of the forums generally stay on course with the minimum of digression, name calling, and in-fighting, at least they did until about six months ago.

Ron, for what it is worth, the forum is your creation so your rules should be respected. Oliver will never change. He is too long in the tooth to change. How many men/women do you know that have been able to change their spouse's behavior. It doesn't happen and won't happen here. Oliver has made that clear. Furthermore, he appears to have some encouragement. You should think of Oliver as that little sliver of metal that gets under your skin and can't easily remove. It will stay there and get infected and cause discomfort and pain until you can no longer endure it. Then you will remove it. Oliver is that sliver. It all depends how long you are willing to endure him. I think in the end he will be removed. It is just a matter of time. Keep him, boot him, it's your decision. The forum probably will settle down with him gone. Either way, follow your gut. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twocents.gif

I have no animosity towards Oliver. Never met him. Whatever he has said to me hasn't been taken to heart or bothered me. My skin is alot thicker than most, and I always look at the source of the dialogue and give it the appropriate weight and consideration. I just think he enjoys the attention and has become a huge distraction on the forum. I further believe that he was lucky in the RF saga. He had NO idea of the trouble brewing and if you read his posts that is evident. What he did do right is consistently question Robert about his order and its status. I will now sit back, eat my popcorn /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lurk.gif and enjoy the dialogue and flaming /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flamer.gif which ensues. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smoke.gif
