I don't get it Keith ! On June 18th you called out Mr. Fechter on his joke like this.

Not to make this into something it isn't, but I seen nothing racist about Mr. Fechter's original post. I read it in full shortly after it was posted. He was not picking on any one race in particular. After living in several places in the US, it looked more like fact than fiction to me.
Time to move on to the next joke I guess.

Brian I am somewhat perplexed (and impressed) but I will try and explain. Certainly, different variations of Bob's 'joke' have been circulating incessantly, where you replace the particular ethnic 'target' with one or several of your choice. It is a much used 'anthem' of right wing neo-fascists in the UK and has been for some time. I detest this joke and it's variants with a passion. I did tell Bob privately that I held him in higher esteem and was disappointed by his post.
When I saw it on the board I instinctively reacted the way I did as the deployment of this particular 'joke' has caused real problems in various communities around here. Now, it's no fun being a white person at the best of times
)) but every time that bloody joke circulates we all get tarred with the same brush again.
I accept that much may be lost in translation in the 5,000 mile journey from here to there.
The Burka/Barka theme is not a joke. It's a serious assault (BY ME) on the symbol of female enslavement in certain communities. It has no Islamic connection save they are made to wear it by their male masters in many households. It is my personal protest medium not an attack on a religion.
The French at least have got some balls, as they have banned women wearing the damned thing.
Finally, as soon as I made the public comment about Bob's joke, I knew I had made an error, but because the admins ignored it and no-one else (except Bob) commented, I let it slide.

Well, I think it's funny, and I don't give a fuck what anyone else thinks. Unless they happen to be someone I like and they agree with me, in which case I DO give a fuck.
I've come to the water boarded conclusion that we all think its funny. Of course, that depends on what your definition of "its" is.

I think it's funny, but then I'm Australian and we take the piss out of everything.
I also agree with Keith that forcing a women or indeed anyone to dress a certain way for any reason is BS. However that is not confined to Islam and some wear the burka voluntarily as does a nun wear her habit.
