Who needs a 4 wheel drive?

That's impressive.

I bet the current owner of that car (if it still exists) has it polished and never takes it out if it's raining.

There's a nice metaphor at 1.17 which I think demonstrates the difference between mankind past vs mankind present.

Great video Pete, thanks for posting.

Great video Pete, thanks for posting.

I know your brain is infinitely sharper than mine, and I cannot get your metaphor. Can you help an old man out here?

No, I can't. I may be wrong you see. If I tell you what I see, that you don't, other's will see it, or not, immediately.

If they see it immediately, but only because I explained what it is that I see, then how can we tell if what I see is truly there to be seen?

Do you see? :)

Can we make this a quiz?

What is it that I see (metaphorically speaking) at 1.17 minutes into the video, that is relevant to the title of the topic originally posted by Pete?

I'd be intrigued to know if I am alone. It could explain an awful lot!!! LOL

To be quite honest, the only thing I can see @ 1:17 is an alien space ship that was previously towing the Dodge with a tractor beam, go into a hover at about the time the Dodge stops and reverses, and, if you look very carefully, you can just make out a cheeky driver change by teleporter.

Thanks for pointing it out. I would have missed it if you hadn't have suggested freeze framing it at that point.

Interesting, and waay ahead of their time...

All I can see is that he gets stuck ,reverses and takes a run up out of the ditch. I suppose there may be some relevance to the title in that short clip:confused::confused:

That's it Bob.

He stops and reverses, finding an alternative way to move forward.

These days it seems that people do need a four-wheeled-drive, because the ability to stop, think, reconsider and choose a different path to reach the intended goal, has been lost.

Now, people just keep plowing straight ahead. If they get stuck, just keep your foot down and dig yourself in deeper. heaven forbid the dreaded re-think. When we finally realise that we are not going to make it, hell, that's the other guy's fault. He didn't place a sign there to warn us of the ditch. AND, we can never doubt our views or opinions. Changing your mind is the admission of failure, apparently.

Sorry guys, this is just BS. But I was so struck by the ability of that old car and driver/s, from so long ago. Nowadays we can't open a fucking bag of rice without a special pair of safety gloves, a label explaining the dangers of bags and scissors made from Titanium.

That's progress doesn't thee knar

:drunk:Hmmmmmm, deep as you like but only part of the 'metaphor'. I liked my version better. :drunk:

I believe there has always been such people as you describe, always, and there always will be. Who else would buy shiny things to help them NOT get stuck and thus they are good for our economy as well as providing great entertainment?

For the rest, there are those who deliberately get stuck as they simply MUST winch themselves to safety using their shiny new winch and winch bumper, and those that pick their route ever so carefully with loads of recces so they NEVER get stuck.

A day out with the AWDC will provide hours of fun as you watch all these 'types' attempt a fearsome off road course. When I was fit enough it became pretty much what I did every weekend, but I was definitely the more cautious 'complete the course and never need a tow' kind of guy. The most entertaining people were definitely those that had spent untold thousands on trick parts, went out there, and, got instantly STUCK  Oh, the shame of it.

To underline a previous comment. There is some trickery in that video, but low power and a very low gear set helps!

You can apply pretty much all those to a metaphor of predictable human behaviour I guess.

I would like to disassociate myself from my post #15. It is wordy, rambling and ridiculously non intellectual.

Please delete it from your memory.

I'll stick with my post #12.

Certainly a low gear set and the lowest diff possible, but I don't think that detracts from the message. I think Mark nailed it.
Most today when getting stuck instead of re-thinking, get on their mobile and call a tow truck. Not that their is really anything wrong with that except the wait.
But the ability to nut out a problem and think outside the box for a solution is being lost.

You guys are going nuts. I have never heard such pretentious bollocks in all my life. ( well, I have to be honest - see post #15)

Own up, I did. Guy gets stuck, reverses, finds another route - ploughs on. Nothing more to see here - move along.
