Your best circuit

Tell us what,s your best circuit and why !
Not just a good circuit for a 40 but any car.

Mine is Brands Hatch, it's 15 minutes away
On the GP circuit you can stretch your cars legs.
Paddock hill bend is notorius for off's
Druids is good for photograhy
Feels good when you get it right.

Go on tell us !

Been there today in the old workhorse

Long Beach (old GP track, Linden Leap)
Watkins Glen
Road Atlanta
Mosport (VW bus, walking with James Hunt, Hans Stuck)
Monaco (open streets, two way traffic)
Spa (twice, BMW, walking, part)
Circuit Velleneuve (most, walking)
Hermonos Rodrigues (walking)
Nurburg Ring (passenger)

Monza. So much history. To be standing in the area of Lesmo 1 and Lesmo 2 with the sounds bouncing off the walls and trees and again to hear the throttle work going around Parabolica.
Then Spa.
McLaren asked for two hours on the circuit in Spa for me in 97. Lots of fun in a brand new hire car. No tires left when I returned it with only 450kms on the clock.
I was supposed to be doing a GPS survey.....

I've only done most of the west coast tracks; (USA) It's gotta be the one closest to home, Pacific Raceways just South of Seattle as I have thousands of laps there in the last 40 years. You get to where you know the fast ways through certain corners and when the rookies arrive you smoke'um and they can't figure it out running the story book apex lines. What a gas! Laguna Seca is "my" next on the list.

Isle of Man TT course. 37 miles. public roads. No speed limit over the mountain. History. No gravel traps. No run offs. Bumps , jumps, bridges, camber, kerbs, walls. trees. Nuff said.
Closed track - SPA!
Cheers

Pat,

Thanks, you know when you list them like that is seems pritty impressive. But really, Laguna is the only one I have done at racing speed. Although I did go through Eau Rouge very fast (flat, as they say), then I turned around at the end of Kemel straight, went slowly back to Le Source and did it again and again. The rest was blocked off. I insisted that Frances do it as well, I told her some day you'll be glad. Now she is proud to let it drop that she has driven Spa!

The others, like Long Beach, Riverside, Monaco, Wakins Glen, Road Atlanta and Mosport were either on off days, after races, club laps or in leaving I just drove around. There was a time when racing folks and tracks were much more open. Spa, the first time we snuck in on a Tuesday morning with no one around. This was in 1991, before they inclosed it.

The rest were walking, mostly after the races, very early or at night when they don't seem to care.

When we went back to Spa in 2007, for the GP. On the Wednesday before the race we did the old part of the track. From Burnville through the Masta Kink and down to Malmady, it's a narrow country road in a very beautiful part of the world with lots of history.

For those who can't get to Belgium, just watch the Spa part of the movie Grand Prix. It looks just like that.

Mate I always thought Morgan Park was your Favourite.
For me Spa.

I hope to make a few in the U S such as Watkins Glenn to the north, and some in the West like Laguna Seca in the next few years. My experience is limited with Road America as a passenger(my car was there but not drivable) and Road Atlanta, because it is close. Will get to most in the SE U S because they are within driving distance for a weekend.

Best (Favourite) would be Le Mans - done a few laps on it and it always chokes me up.

Other Tracks
Victoris Falls Road Circuit Bulaways Zimbabwe - LOOOOONG straights and sweeping bends
Donnington Circuit Harare Zimbabwe - tight and with a cer unforgiving wall on the exits of a number of corners.
Brands Hatch UK Never managed to get on the full circuit but the "Indi" is fun and you still get Paddock Hill Bend to negotiate.
Donnington UK Midlands Great track for the GT40 track day
Silverstone - sorry IMHO a pile of sh1t

Agree,
Le Mans full circuit (not Bugatti) is the best after Spa to me.
I had the opportunity to really track last year when we had the GT40 evening laps (I never saw the the Pace Car ...) on friday evening at Le Mans Classic and I will never forget ...thanks to the GT40 Club!

favorites:
Road America - long flowing beautiful setting.
Sears Point - Challenging from start to finish, no rest.
Daytona - Drips with history, banking WAS bumpy has hell, now smooth.

to do list:
Mugello
Spa - has to be the coolest track in the world.
Phillip Island
Bathhurst

Ian - I too wondered what the attraction is at Silverstone .... flat as a pancake ...maybe just the history?
