Down Under and other places to immigrate to...

My grand parents on both sides immigrated to the USA to escape the clutches of Adolph Hitler as well as to move to a country where they felt there was greater opportunity and their freedom would be greater and unchallenged.

As you can readily see from news reports et al - The USA may be headed down "the path" where socialism (or worse) will become the norm.
Maybe the trend will change and people will start to leave the USA.

So in thinking out loud - I'm wondering where one would move to and why...

For my own personal tastes - I really dislike long and cold winters. Must have something to do with having to grow up in it and work in it for so many years.
Obviously I am an automotive enthusiast and racer.

So what do you think and why?

Thanks!

BTW - I am a Veterean of Military service during Vietnam and am a fierce supporter of freedom and democracy...

My father immigrated to the US lawfully from Sweden. My great grandparents on my mothers side immigrated lawfully from Germany and England. I think the key word here may be "lawfully". The ones that didn't speak english, the language of the US, learned, immediately. They were honored to be accepted as citizens of the US. They retained their heritage, but were US citizens first and foremost. No waving of flags from their countries of origin. I have considered moving to another country, but then I ask "Why the hell should I have to?" Why can't we enforce immigration? Why do we have to accept socialism? We are letting the tail wag the dog, this is BS!

Perhaps "WE THE PEOPLE" can return from complacency to action this November, it would be a start!

Costa Rica!

Cheap, warm, pretty women - I doubt it has very many fun roads though.

( I wonder if the pretty women are warm and cheap- that would be a plus!)

Costa Rica is definitely beautiful but not as cheap as it use to be. As for the roads well not very good. It took Jack Houpe(2164) and I like 14 hours to go less that 100 miles on one trip. We spent more time off the road than on the road. Don't repeat me on this or tell anyone that I said this but the women are definitly pretty on a higher average than other places that I have visited.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung
it on my back porch and filled
it with seed. What a beauty of
a bird feeder it was, as I filled it

lovingly with seed. Within a
week we had hundreds of birds
taking advantage of the
continuous flow of free and
easily accessible food.

But then the birds started
building nests in the boards
of the patio, above the table,
and next to the barbecue.

Then came the shit. It was
everywhere: on the patio tile,
the chairs, the table ..
everywhere!

Then some of the birds
turned mean. They would
dive bomb me and try to
peck me even though I had
fed them out of my own
pocket.

And others birds were
boisterous and loud. They
sat on the feeder and
squawked and screamed at
all hours of the day and night
and demanded that I fill it
when it got low on food..

After a while, I couldn't even
sit on my own back porch
anymore. So I took down the
bird feeder and in three days
the birds were gone. I cleaned
up their mess and took down
the many nests they had built
all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like
it used to be .... quiet, serene....
and no one demanding their
rights to a free meal.

Now let's see.
Our government gives out
free food, subsidized housing,
free medical care and free
education, and allows anyone
born here to be an automatic
citizen.

Then the illegals came by the
tens of thousands. Suddenly
our taxes went up to pay for
free services; small apartments
are housing 5 families; you
have to wait 6 hours to be seen
by an emergency room doctor;
your child's second grade class is
behind other schools because
over half the class doesn't speak
English.

Corn Flakes now come in a
bilingual box; I have to
'press one ' to hear my bank
talk to me in English, and
people waving flags other
than 'Old Glory' are
squawking and screaming
in the streets, demanding
more rights and free liberties.

Just my opinion, but maybe
it's time for the government
to take down the bird feeder.

I have some friends that built themselves a nice house in Mexico on the water....far, far away from tourists or large cities. They found the local people to be genuine and gracious. They made a concerted effort to be polite and respectful of local traditions and relationships - they spoke fluent spanish before going there and spent a lot of time travelling there previously to educate themselves about local conditions and expectations. They never felt threatened or unsafe or made to feel like outsiders. They spent five years there and had a great experience. The sold their property for twice what they had into it, and made some life long friends.

Strange to be suggesting Mexico as a more desirable place to live than the US. But who knows, maybe one day we'll all be saying move to Nigeria or China!

I like the stance those people adopted, to often others go to a strange/new country & expect to bring their 'bad habits' with them.
We have to bear in mind that if we continue to abandon ship & go elsewhere to avoid issues we will eventually run out of places to go, perhaps we are at that point or past it already. That being the case 'WE' really need to start doing more about looking after our own 'backyards', regardless of where we are on the planet.

I wonder though whether the price on resale was affordable to those 'locals' who live there year round or was it bought by another 'outsider'. We see examples of this here where overseas interests buy up property & virtually exile the locals eventually simply because the inflated property values drive annual rates etc up to the point where they are no longer affordable by locals.

It's a shame that people that come to the US don't take the time to learn the language and traditions.

I agree with the sentiments above. However, if you are moving, then Australia is a relatively safe, comfortable, and friendly place. Probably NZ too, but it's now almost an island of Australia (sorry, Jac). Pick a place on the east coast to suit your taste in temperature, from Melbourne (cold winters) to Brisbane (mild winters) to Townsville (steamy all year), or in women (we won't go there).

Unfortunately, we have some issues with the indigenous people, the migrants and refugees, the politically correct and "do-gooders", and also an ever-growing government and public works sector that wastes much of our nation's wealth. How any of us can turn the clock back is a frustrating search for effective means of action. Vote as well as you can, but the system is self-perpetuating to a large extent.

Yes, the system is self perpetuating, offer the masses handouts, pay them for not working, let illegals jump the immigration line/queue and all will vote for you.
Every State in Australia is a socialist state and all have rapidly turned the economy from an inherited surplus to a deficit. This also applies to our Federal Government which is quickly sending the country broke. Political correctness is rampant, although not as bad as in the U.K. but heading that way.
Randy it is quite difficult to immigrate to Australia if you are a hard working responsible person..The easiest way is to come from any place ending in Stan. Find your way to Indonesia, pay a people smuggler and arrive in a leaky boat with no papers. Our Government will then take care of you, give you money to get started and find you cheap housing, they will also pay you while you are looking for work and don't worry if you cannot find work, they will keep paying you.

I agree with Mike Trusty Costa Rica is nice place to visit and a good place to leave.

I have been very upset with our government and will vote this year to hope to make a difference. I vote every election (exception when out of country) but from here on out will be standing in line for every single one. I think you will see a difference this coming election lets hope to get rid of the mouth in the house and her followers and then on to the next election. :)

Randy TX is warm, people are friendly and good roads to tear up. I would like to see New Zealand someday before I die, it looks so beautiful and we have some great guys with 40s there. Wonder what is the best time of year to visit New Zealand.
