F1 2010

Yes I stand corrected they are Carbon Ceramic brakes, yes they are used by Porsche and Ferrari. They are now standard equipment on the Corvette ZR1, they are now avaliable to a wider range of people that want to use them on their road cars.

My point is these are straight from F1 development, like traction controls etc.... Why try to stop this sort of design?

Look at the turbo era of the early 80's, think about all the great little turbo cars that came out because of that.

Paolo, the PCCB option for the Porsche is $8,500.00 for the option. I am not sure about the conversion for the euro. I do know that to put on a tire, one must be very careful as to not hurt or crack the ceramic disc. They are so very expensive. I understand that this can be a problem with the brakes.

It would be nice guys if you are going to mention results that you preface your post with "Spoiler" or similar to warn people who have recorded the race and don't want to know the result not to read your post.

A very interesting race compared to Bahrain, quite a bit of passing and race strategy played a big part.
I guess you heard about Lewis getting arrested for doing a burnout and getting his car impounded?
David should I send my $10.00 now?

P.S. Brembo have denied that Vettel's problem was a brake failure.

Interesting that Brembo came out with an announcement today that their brakes were definitely NOT the cause of Vettels retirement but the "Front axle torque drive became detached" whatever that means. I suppose it's one thing a supplier saying that their product wasn't responsible, but quite another giving their own version of the failure... strange and a tiny bit uncalled for unless there is acrinomy.

I cannot remember an individual supplier ever coming out and saying anything like this before, and I guess it's because RB did not want the details of the failure public for some reason and just chose "brakes" as the general cause.

Brembo even went on to say that it wasn't wheel nut failure either as that had been torqued on correctly.

Quite a bizarre episode really...

(sorry Pete, just read your last line!)

Normally when a carbon disc fails there is a noticeable puff of dust coming off the wheel in question. It was a front wheel that got the blame if I remember correctly and there was no puff of dust visible from the on board pictures I saw. Speculating, something may have fallen onto the disc and jammed it up and broken it causing it to fail but not on its own. Just a guess but that leaves enough room for using it as an excuse perhaps.

"Front axle torque drive"? Sounds like a KERS device.....

There were sparks that came from the wheel during the lock up event. I wouldn't imagine that the brakes would create the sparks.

Thank you for the link to the "open paddock". There were several good comments and the photos of the front rotating assembly.

The term of Torque Drive certainly and interesting one, kind of like the rear muffler bearing.

I think that if Vettel makes it through a race without breaking, he will be a good contender this year.

Well, thats what happened Tom. Nothing broke. If Vettel keeps it on the island in the subsequent races, no one will get anywhere near him.
However - another big waste of money on the Schumacher revival. He's been paid $4.7m for three races so far - and for what?

Spoiler alert

I thought is was quite a decent race in the field......watching the fast guys prove, from the back, that it is possible to pass was refreshing.

Vettel is impressive - Webber as well.

As a Hamilton fan, I was pleased to see so much attention on him by the camera's.

As an Alonzo non-fan I was impressed by his handling of what had to be a real pain in the ass car problem....

Finally, I was glad to see Nico Rosberg again show the cheater how it is done and even more glad when his car expired.

Pat,
You have summed it up about Schumacher and how he will always be remembered - a cheat. Which in a way is sad as well as he certainly had a talent in his day.
Personally I would like to see him totally embarassed and then have to crawl back under the stone from which he recently emerged. But what do I know......

What do you know David? Don't be a silly billy. :)

A job very well done Monsieur Morton - you should up the ante - the others got it plain wrong, and the proof of the pudding is in the reading....

Grazie Keith. Q was so much fun. It appears they might up the ante when they get back home though I'm happy as I am. I think.
I enjoyed Mc Laren's Mr Whippy getting it wrong on Saturday more than anything.

David, you asked what was gained by Schumacher coming back for 4+million. Well, one of the commentators did say that Algusuari (I am sure I spelled that wrong) mentioned that he has never learned so much battling with Schumacher. We got it all wrong, Schumi is the new teacher for all of the other drivers from other teams that Mercedes is paying for. That is very generous of them!
