Mk2 nostril hinges

Hello out there in the GT world

I’m trying to find the nostril hinges used on P1016...

Have bought Triumph TR2/3 bonnet hinges, but they are slanted and not possible to use. Mini Classic ones are all different angles and slants too.

Any suggestions?

Move the pivot point back, onto the main body. That will increase the clearance while the hood is opened.

I have these two pairs which I don't need. They look different from those in your photo but similar to those fitted to P1046.

I was advised that the original part was the boot hinge from a Ferrari 275GTB as at:

They look very similar to the ones James has.

I used Mini Mk1 door hinges on my car and machined them to take out slant so they sit squarely.

On the Cobra replicas I've built, there was a Right and Left side trunk/boot hinge. Put them on wrong and it will break the pot-metal hinge.
I looked into doing hinges on my MK1 RCR Car, but they simply would not work with either the single or double nostril panel unless I cut away a good 6" from the bottom of the nostril to clear the radiator..

i believe the originals had a hand formed alloy plate that came up from the bottom of the radiator to meet the bottom of the nostril panel. This was about the 6” high you speak of. Only going of photos I have seen.

Did it today.
Used TR3 hinges and made some 3mm alloy wedge plates to get the angle right (horizontal).
Made the wedge plates by hand using a file and some elbow grease.
Fabricated a stay also, fitted to the clip as my clip will be quick release.

Morten I wonder if you could tell me the overall length of the nostril hinges please and possibly the length either side of the joint Itself?

Hi Mark, these are the Mini ones, they are not flat and will need to be machined flat to work on the nostril.
