Yes I hope it flys Leon.

I got all the back bone in and the seats.
Next stage will be the dash structure.

The seats required stiffeners on the under side.
I made a simple die to press the hat shape.

painted and installed.

It came in so far at 40.2 kg, I would expect the completed tub be under 50kg

I love this !! your skill and workmansip makes me feel mine is pretty average, Having said that it does push me to do better work and that is a big help. I want to get back into finishing my tub. Just the fuel tanks to make and a few little features around the seating area you have given me some ideas. Do you have a proper tool for doing the flared hole if so can you show a photo of it, I may try to make one.

Thanks for posting Jim

Cheers Leon.

Thanks Ron

Leon look at this guys work (Ashley),I studied inside the air frames to see how it is made folded and cut it helped me lift my game and he advised me to buy an aircraft book that helped in some areas.
Looking at the photos was all it took to change my approach.
All MetalShaping

Using a trimmer to cut out panels made a massive difference, pic 3 is the die I use for cutting 30x 30 corners for all the 25 x 25 folds.
I clamp the sheet to the template on the edge of the table and trim it out.
Pic 4 is the finished sheet.
One of the best things I came up with for consistent folds was 1" masking tape, dont use a marking pen, I dont mark out for any folds I just lay the tape along the edge of the sheet.

The hole punching and swagging is a hyd unit.
I bought this on ebay for $100 and its the best thing since sliced bread.
I only have to drill an 11mm hole.
I then realized I can use it to swage as well, the 60mm I had to make an upper and lower die but the smaller ones I only make the upper and use the next size up in lower cutting dies on the lower and press into that.
I used delrin

Well I never, ice cream eh? Here in the UK the term is used instead of 'Hocus Pocus' and seems to be an idiom of same i.e. trickery, fakery, smoke and mirrors etc. It is quite an ancient expression but you can still hear it around describing something a bit dodgy..

LoL Jim here The Hokey Pokey is a song that they do at weddings or family reunions to get you dancing.
You put your right foot in you put your right foot out (x2) You do the Hokey Pokey and turn yourself about.
Sorry To go off Topic

Should I ever visit I think I will pass on the Monroe Coffee thanks! Might be a shock to the system! Quite happy to curtail your addiction to the Hokey Pokey though:)

Thanks for that Jim, I think Hokey Pokey is a Aussie/Kiwi thing and I could be wrong but I thought only Tip Top made it, I'm sure they invented the flavour, as far back as I can remember ice cream I remember Hokey Pokey was around.
Any way back to the serious stuff. The radius corners do make for a nice finish and you have your folder set down a tadd to give you a nice rounded fold and not a sharp 90.
that would be good when using a harder/Tensile grade alloy correct? I do have a little sheet fab left to do so I will be employing your methods, thanks a heap for the info.:thumbsup:

Cheers Leon.

Is this the Munroe coffee you are passing on Jack.
Good to see your gut feeling is still working.
Even their cups are no good.

The tread drifting is fine guys its good for a laugh.

All the bars I ground the edge off to the rad I wanted.
If I want a larger rad I use an 8mm flat bar bolted in the beam and push into the V.

Hey Jim
Super inspired by your chassis build which has prompted me to start on a steel mono GT40 project. Please keep the detailed pics and info coming.

Jim:
Did you find a car to measure or did you find drawings like the illusive Gt40 chassis drawings.

Yes elusive drawings.
I looked for a long time ,then found out one had been build 2 blocks from me.
I contacted the guy and he gave me drawings that he took of a real one.

I have promised not to hand them out so guys you cant email me over these.

Dave why not, it easier than tube work.
