Thanks Jac,

I will pass your comments on to the design team, we hope to be able to do some testing within the next two weeks (in the workshop) which should provide some feed back on wether we are close to the mark or not. This system (or very similar) has been installed in a V8 off road dune buggy that has similar horse power, better access to air flow but would be running much at lower speeds.

My comment would be as stated by Jac above plus, and I am very prepared to learn here, I would have expected the top of the swirl pot / airation tank to be bled back to the header tank with a small line?

Cheers

Hi Fred

Thanks for taking the time to view the diogram, I asked exactly that question when I saw the design. I think they plan to use the pressure in the aeration tank to strip air out of the system and pressurise the inlet side of the system.

The designer is a bit of a legend here in Australia who has several success stories and a few disaters to his name !

Fingers crossed !

The following is an exert from another web site, this one worked !

Cooled by Eco-Therm (eco-what?!)
One aspect to this engine which we haven’t disclosed yet is its cooling system.
The Eco-Therm fluid management system was originally invented by Melbourne’s John Bennet, although various specialists including John Eleuteri from Guildford Radiators in WA have now picked up on the idea.
Eco-Therm sees the vehicle’s standard thermostat removed and placed in a directional flow control (DFC) unit complete with venturis.
During engine warm up, the coolant is simply by-passed through this DFC to another similar unit and then back to the engine.
At operating temperature however, the thermostat in the DFC opens. But instead of going straight to the radiator, the coolant goes first to a header tank where steam and bubbles are bled off.
The hot liquid is then transferred to the radiator, which can work at optimum efficiency because of the lack of conventional steam and bubbles.
Essentially, Eco-Therm reduces cavitation and hence makes a significant contribution to engine cooling. The system also requires modifications to the vehicle’s water pump impellors, in order to produce a quicker coolant flow.

Doug,

It is a "standard" race seat that we got from the UK, the suppliers name escapes me but I have the invoice somwhere, I will post details

Hi Iain,

The car looks a million bucks. Bit of a teaser though. Any more shots of the car, and under the rear clip?

Have you used the Motec ADL2 dash previously (on the Cobra)? I'd be interested to hear what you think of it.

Troy

Does anyone out there know where I might find a "Louvered" panel to go onto the rear clip. I have found some one here in Sydney who can manufacture from scratch but the louvers are only very small,

Iain

Hi Troy,

We have used the Motec Dash for the lsat 2 / 3 years in the Cobra. I confess I dont use it much when actually driving but it, combined with Pro logging is a usefull tool to analyse events after the race. The most usefull function is in our "Endurance" series (Bit of an overstatement as the races are only 1 Hr long ! due to refueling constraints) These races require a driver change during the race so comparing all the various data can really help. It has a tool that allows you to see where one driver makes gains over another, you can then drill down into the data and see how that has been acheived.

On the new car we have a "widget" that I think will actually be really usefull. It is an array of LCDs (6 or 8) that sits on top of the Motec Dash, that has been set up to perform several tasks.
1. Shift light Green, Green, Green, Green, Green, RED
2. Alarm lights
All red = Ignition Failure
All Green = Water Temperature
All Orange = Water Pressure
All Blue = Oil Pressure
Etc Etc

The really clever bit is that using the same LCDs you can get the different colours, no idea how they manage that !

We have more sensors on the new car than you can poke a stick at, the trick is having someone who actually knows how to interpret it ! There are always plenty of people at the track who spend hours pearing into the data giving advice

Hi Iain -

We too use the Motec data logging for after run comparison/checking although not with the ADL2 Dash. Fellow club competitor Bjorn has one on his comp coupe and it is very useful..

Re the LCD colours, for backlighting, most LCDs use LED technology, so with suitably coloured LEDs or Tri-Colour LEDs, it is possible to illuminate in any colour you like. Very good for drawing your attention to the required display I would think.

Hi Paul,

I have scanned and attached the 'widget' I was reffering to, when alarm lights come up it is really, really bright, you simply cant miss it !

On a completely different note what is the motorcycle in your Avatar ?

Warning.... Offensive pictures

I know its probably considered sacrilege, but as previously stated we are here to beat the competition by any means permitted under the rule book, hence a fairly radical departure from the original instrument layout. I have, in an effort to mitigate this transgression added a couple of less inflamatory shots.

Talking about inflamatory issues, if the electrician doesnt show up soon to finish his work I may need to engage the services of Chopper Reid (Sorry Australians only) to re focus his attention.

If he doesn't show up soon Lain I'll come up and do it for you. I love the 8 ball colour scheme by the way but I'm not sure about the white roll cage.Just my opinion of course. Are you sure you'll have the time to watch Jerry Springer on that dash TV? All looks good though, you can't be far off smashing the champagne bottle on the Bow.

Ross:thumbsup:

Iain - That is one very beautiful car you have there.... Certainly one of the most beautiful to hit the track... You have certainly raised the bar!!!

Engine
Well we finally started the engine in the car, a short video has been posted on you tube, once again I'm not sure how to add the link so if any one can help please do.

Sorry Guys, I have tried in vain to find the correct thread to reply to David Morton regarding the DTM race at Zandvort but have failed so I have to use this thread to transmit,

David,
It would appear that Oliver has booked the 4th fastest time in the first practice session, I know its hard to judge without knowing where teams are with tyres etc etc but this is the first circuit he has raced at in the Audi with track previous experience (and a fairly healthy record to boot). I hate to put the "mockers" on him but I hope he gets a chance to complete a race without any undue biff or bash from less talented pilots, oops I've just done it.. the time lag here in Austraila means I am up till 10-11pm to monitor events, as Ross will confirm this eats into much needed beauty sleep !

Please let me know how he is going

Hey Ian,
I saw Mick and the boys today and what can I say. Photos just don't do it justice. It's come a long way since I last seen it. The fabrication and engeneering that has gone into it is sinply incredible. I must say, I haven't seen anything like that exhoust, simply stunning.
