World product heads

Has anyone had any experience with World product heads. I am looking for a head with extended exhaust stud locations (3" instead of 2"). These heads have these stud holes drilled alongside the originals and may suit my needs (I have a specially built set of headers). They are going on a 351W.

Cheers

They seem to make a lot of power with their products, do pretty well at the Popular Hot Rodding "Engine Masters" competition. However, I have no personal experience so perhaps others might be able to help you.

I have just come across similar with my heads in changing headers going from the wider pattern to a narrower. I have the Dart II heads and can confim they have both hole patterns.

David,
If the WP ones don't work for you Canfield make similar heads with double spaced holes.

Are Canfield still in business? went to look up some info on them recently & got the impression they are no longer available. Coincidentally have just had a pair that had a crack [which had been welded] running the full length of the head below the exh ports & just inside the outer stud boss @ fillet radius of bolt seat face, assume motor they were previously fitted to has been in detonation at some time...

Have also had some WP Iron heads thru the shop recently with porous casting defects, one in exh port that only showed up under elevated pressure test...

Just because its 'new' doesnt mean its any good!!

I wanted alluminium ones but they were'nt avail. at the time --settled for the iron ones --which is probably just as well, as they've been shot peened by pistons a few times---all in all --good tough heads and good performance outa the box (although heavy)--still in use today on about a 480 HP screeming 302 motor

I have consistently heard of the WP heads having poor casting quality, but I have no first hand experience. Maybe try googling and see what comes up in other forums, alot of big block chevy guys run WP stuff.

I would also call Edelbrock, AFR, Dart, or whoever else your looking at directly too see if they will give you a custom set with your proper header fastener dimensions. Dart does custom machining on blocks and heads to customer spec all the time and when I wanted a set of AFR heads without the logo on the end (I hate logo's showing) I called AFR up and they had my heads too me in a week just like I wanted.

Dave,

If you are considering custom drilled, then as you are in Australia don't discount CHI and AFD, shipping savings alone are probably substantial. They are both canted valve Cleveland style head, but work well to create a true 'BOSS 302' or Clevor on a Windosr 351.

IMHO CHI are probably one of the best out of the box Ford heads you can get.

There has been talk sadly that since CHI was bought out that quality control seems to be on the downgrade. I read one instance of a CHI rep defending their new process of questionable patch jobs on heads that couldn't pass pressure instead of remelting the faulty head and recasting like most high end manufacturers do including what CHI used to do. Plus with CHI or AFD heads your even if you buy assembled, your talking new intake, water crossover plumbing materials and y-block, rocker arms, valve covers etc. if he doesn't have them.

Interesting, I didn't know CHI had been sold/taken over. I do recall reading some porous casting issues with AFD a while back. Agreed on the anciliary stuff, the 4V probably offers the most cost effective as its std 4V Cleveland port sizes/location.

Lots of info here for me to follow up. I have found a set of bare WP heads here in OZ at a fair price, but there is no harm in looking. I have been looking at some of the Windsor 351 crate engines sold here, but I'm not convinced of the quality. I'm investigating building my own from a second hand block, if I can find a good one, and plonking these heads on with a set of Webers. Sounds like a plan at any rate.

I've been using their iron Windsor JR heads on my 289 Cobra for several years wothout any issues. Short turn radius on the exhaust port is much better than any of the OEM inline valve Ford heads. Make good power.
