That is amazing, It is almost a shame to finish the car by covering up the monocoque. Great workmaship!!

These pictures almost take my breath away....

The beauty in this chassis is truly unparalleled... I would love to see the full resolution pictures.
Would there be any chance of that? We can find a place to host them!

Here come some more pictures from the allmost finished monocoque we are also working with the uprights and suspension.
The worst part will be to paint all this black, then it's only the pictures left for the shiny monocoque.

Here come some more details from my project. The nice thing about using these drawings is that everything seems to fit almost perfect, but as with all handmade cars, some work must be done to make a better fit.

The color I have seen in books seems to be black, but there can be a different color in the gulf cars, and I think I will go for GULF. outside and inside.

Groundwork prepared and just to dig a litte bit for the edge beam around for the next concreteplate.
My chassis stay inside this Garage , and wait to roll out sooner or later.

I'm on the verge of touching myself inappropriatel
Dude... How did I miss this thread. In-friggin-sane! Great work man. If it were me, I'd do a clear powdercoat of the monocoque to show off my work and protect the metal. Great job so far, I'm VERY impressed.

Rune, I haven't been here for a while and I was truly impressed of how good the monocoque looks. I was saving to buy the replica car but maybe I have to save a little longer...
Great work!!
Say hello to Goran for me.

I was in #103 years back, sat in it and crawled all over it at my leisure, a great experience. I think the chassis paint WAS blue, but the chassis color of 1072, which I saw recently, is black. Take your pick. They are both authentic. As far as what color the Gulf cars' chassis were painted, you should look on Racing Icons' web site. They did the restoration of 1076 which won Best in Class at Pebble Beach in 2003 and Robert Ash is a fanatic for authenticity. I think 1076 chassis is black, kind of a dull semi-gloss finish.

Willem .I'll say hello to Goran . I'll work next week with him.

I think I stick to the black chassis it's safe.

Here we freaked out some from the chassis building, we made some roll cage just to se how the new 75 mm Herber bending machine work. It take some time to do the set up , but after that, it's just go.
We will also do the setup for the headers and with a tool like this ,it's just fun to make all the snakes. There are two Herbers like this but smaller that we will program for some of the bending. It is a huge work to make the tools for all this different tube sizes . Later we can make headers for everyone. But first the monocoque

This have been pretty busy day , with aluminum as "liquid" and sand molds ready, we just had to work it trough, and the result is two sets of front uprigths + some other parts. Not only for my car,but we had to make them to get rid of the melted aluminum.
It is wonderful to see parts be born like this, and after a tour in the machines , some nice parts are ready for my car.
I will show pictures of the upright when finish.

The mold model for the uprights are not made by amateurs, a expert have done this perfect models that we where lucky to use.
The weakest point in this casting prosess are the people that handle the melted aluminum . It is not easy to make them. But as You can see it is not that bad.
Rune

Hi Rune... I love checking your site and the work is realy impressive. My question today is what grade/spec alloy have you used for your uprights. I have my moulds waiting at the casters and we are talking alloys, at this point I.m keen to go with 5008 as it age hardens and doesn't need heat treating to get good properties, the other choice is LM25 which is easier to cast but needs heat treatment to get the best properties from it. your thoughs and expertise apreciated. cheers Leonmac.

We use a quality that are the best available that can be heat treated to harden some more.
Rune

PS we do not heat treat them after the casting.
