I am not a fan of conspiracy theories, but weren't the new owners of Sauber/BMW told yesterday that "there WILL be room on the grid for you next year" ?

As you say David, if someone came up with an F1 based soap or fillum with this stuff we would all cry "rubbish!"

What I would like to know is, what kind of pressure/financial reward exists for a team or individual(s), not particularly running at the front (Renault 2008), to DELIBERATELY write off a car worth about £1 million and risking serious injury at least to the pilot and other competitiors?

A major betting scam? (allegedly)

I would love to see it being re awarded as a result of this scam by Renault.
I think everybody would inwardly cheer if it did go to Massa irrespective of
the PC aspect it clearly evokes. For me - it would be a very loud HOOOORRRRAAAYY
to see the championship re awarded to Massa.

McLaren fined £100,000,000 for copying another teams info, no risk to life there. So what fine for risking life and limb to win? Clearly £100,000,000 didn't establish the position firmly enough that cheats are not wanted. So how much for Renault to stay in F1 now?

Sorry to put a damper on this, but on reflection I am sick to my stomach about this conspiracy. I grew up hero worshipping the daredevil racers that piloted less than perfect machines - risking their lives on a daily basis - and we lost so many heroes who died in the process.

My old boss John Surtees risked his life every week developing the technology that eventually grew into current F1.

But none of these current F1 wankers would be earning the obscene amounts of money they do without their sacrifices (including Henry Surtees not 3 weeks ago) and this recent cynical manipulation has really hacked me off.

It's an insult to their memory.

It kind of reflects exactly what's wrong with this world at the moment, including perhaps the naked greed of the banking fraternity?
