Since we're talking $US10, and I work three weeks for that sort of money,:lol: we need to address this issue.
Maybe you need to clarify your points allocation system Dave?
Alternatively why not do it like this? :-
If noone gets the top five in the right order then we look at only the top four, if that doesn't resolve it then the top three and so on. If that results in more than one person with the same top picks then we allocate the championship points earned by the drivers in the balance of each of their picks to determine the winner.

After much thought and a couple of bottles of Sth Australia's finest here is my final top five. Slight alteration to the order.

On the points system, I agree it would be wrong that you get nil points if you don't place a specific driver in exactly the right spot i.e. if you predicted Alonso in 1st place and he came second, it is wrong that you score no points at all.
How about basing it on David's proposal - 10 for 1st, 8 for 2nd, 7 for 3rd, 6 for 4th and 5 for 5th, but if you have the right name, but in the wrong place - say you predicted Alonso in 1st but he came 2nd, you initially get 8 points for the name - but this would be reduced by 1/5th as a penalty for being 1 place out.
Similarly, if he came, 3rd, you'd get 7 points reduced by 2/3rds for being 2 places out -- right down to if he came 5th you'd get 5 points reduced by 4/5ths for being 4 places out.
If one of your named drivers doesn't come in the top 5 at all, then obviously he doesn't score.
Just a suggestion! I now this isn't my game so I'm happy to go with whatever is agreed.

Chris - it's anybody's game. If you or anybody else is happy to take over the scoring ideas I'd be very happy. I was just keeping it really simple. It all comes out the same in the end me thinks. It's only a bit of fun at the end of the day.

I'm not interested in taking over the scoring. Surely everyone can be trusted to do their own scoring at the end of the season.
My thoughts were based on the fact that based on the simple 10,8,7,6,5 system, if everyone playing has selected 5 names in a specific order, there is a possibility ( I'm not a statistician! ) that 'players' will have all the names right, but in the wrong order, therefore they will score NIL points.
They would be beaten by someone who had 4 completely wrong names, and only one correct one - but in the right place.
My suggestion was based on giving credit for 'near misses' on a proportionate basis

And its only the first hour and half of the new season, and 19 laps were driven. But for the significance of the free test session of friday, someone is smiling. Adrian Sutil is ahead of everyone in the Force India. Even Fernando Alonso could achieve second behind the wheel of a Ferrari. And everyone else has a good excuse for a small headache, for example Michael Schumacher, 10th in a Mercedes, or Vettel 13th in a Red Bull.
In Sakhir, the surprise is from the teams not considered favorites could have a very happy season. Sutil lapped at 1.56.583, leaving behind Alonso (-0.183). Following is Robert Kubica (Renault), Felipe Massa (Ferrari), and the two McLarens of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button and the other Force India by the Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi. The first Mercedes of Nico Rosberg, was eighth. The disillusioned will say that not everyone was lapping with the same fuel and tires, but look at Red Bull (Mark Webber nineth, and his teammate Vettel was farther back) and Schumi, who was 1.079 behind Sutil.
Now the difficulty. Looking at the new teams. There was some emotion when Bruno Senna with his Hispania GP (he only did 3 laps before returning to the pit area), and the other new teams have real difficulty. The Virgin of Timo Glock and Lotus of Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli are 7 seconds off the pace, and Lucas Di Grassi (with the other Virgin) has no time, and Karun Chandhok (teammate of Senna) didn't enter the track. One hopes of rapid progress, and not have two categories of cars on the track at the same time, ugly and even dangerous.

Guys, guys. David’s KISS principle is just that, simple. A little ‘football’ pool like game. Points for 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. in descending values, so the F-1 champ gets the most points.
Each right guess is awarded commensurate points. Most total points wins. Ties are as suggested, with the most ‘right’ guesses starting from 1st down winning. Perhaps a little effort to assigning the point spread is in order, if we can decide for example that 1st and 4th , say, is better (more points) than 2nd and 3rd? Or not?
Trying to figure out a driver’s championship point system seems a bit beyond the scope of this game, besides, the FIA has been fooling with this for how many years now? …and counting?

Here are Friday practise 2 results, the track was very sandy and Temperature was hot, all teams reported a lot of tyre wear and Webber had gearbox problems.

Enough is enough. I think a 2 minute barrier should be implemented ASAP
and every car /driver incapable of bettering it should run in a seperate race.
Seven seconds adrift on the Virgins and 11 seconds on the Patch (HRT)
is just too much and Whiting and/ or the Stewards of the meeting should step in.
