F1 in 2013

I have said it a few times here before but since someone asked for comment...
I find myself uninterested in F1. I still try to watch the races - old habits die hard - but I almost always find myself doing something else long before the race is over.
I thought it was me but I have continued to watch several different types of racing and am as enthusiastic as always, so it isn't me.
Irish motorcycle road racing is the king IMO. Unbelievable.
Honestly though, the best racing is usually at the non- business end of the spectrum. Once again I thank SBS Australia for their continued efforts to cover such Motorsport.

I am really quite sad about my feelings towards F1. I followed it avidly all my life - before races were telecast here I scoured any and all magazines I could find for information and would read Automobile Year's descriptions over and over.

IMO F1 is dead. As said above, it used to be the pinnacle of many things, but now... Meh. Just a business more interested in expanding and maximizing its market and profits than it is in Motorsport.

With you on that one Time. That pretty much sums it up.

It's gone a different route entirely now with new emerging markets who probably don't know a spark plug from a cup holder but they can quote stats till the sun goes down.

To me, it always was the battle of the 'Men in Sheds' but now seems to be the battle of the Board Rooms.

I'll still watch the Classics though like Spa in a couple of hours!

Not much of a race, but not the worst, but then the most interesting part of the race was the IR cam (thermal cam) on the front tires (from on top of the roll hoop?). Watching the temps change immediately under braking, left to right differential, and even seeing the asphalt heat trail "shadow" under braking was fascinating.

Honestly, they say Jenson Button moans (well, explains a lot) but really...

I think that Ferrari are VERY unhappy with Alonso as he has dared (as did Prost) question the team. It's quite a good move because for the first time, Ferrari seem to have scrapped the designated driver system and gone for 2 =. as Raikkonen would never have signed up for a No.2 post.

I hope the guy gets a decent drive. In his day he was as good as he was ever allowed to be. Ask Peter Sauber how good he was - 'cos Pete could pick 'em.

He got some shite treatment at Ferrari and to come back from that horrific accident - well the guy has some balls, and he has been an absolute gift for the Prancing Pony but they never used him right.

I hope he does well..and I like his little fat minime father too :laugh:

There are a few drivers out there that given the kit could win races. I also think Massa,Weber and quite a few of the "number two" drivers which are given equal chances draw a blank when it comes to set up. All the teams would like to see their cars come in 1st and 2nd but the number two drivers just dont seem able to wring out that last tenth, less than a blink of an eye I know but x60 it is a country mile in F1. That tenth is nothing to do with driving ability its to do with seat of the pants feedback to the engineers that will adjust set up and put something under you that feels right.That is difference between good drivers and great drivers. Sebastian Petal seems at the moment to be one of those great drivers

I also hope Massa finds a good drive, Alonso will feel a little vulnerable with Kimi joining.
Apparently his salary is €20 million provided by shell and Fiat will support his rallying.

Some of these guys are serious prima donnas. I hope Massa gets a good drive- he's a nice guy and a fair competitor. It would be great to see him win it all....

No-one here seems very interested in F1 anymore compared with a few years ago

Anyway, going to make a kind of prediction. The sticking point on JB may well be that Honda doesn't want him in 2014 and perhaps JB is holding out for a two year deal.

Just a gut feeling - any one else bothered?
