Hi from Melbourne, Australia

I have just purchased a DRB GT40 which has been started but the previous owner has changed direction for some reason . New to GT40's but I have restored many vintage racers in my time and now that I am retired I thought I should fulfill my dream of owning a GT40, albeit a replica. Would love to hear from anyone in the Mornington area who is doing something similar. Looks like a great site.

Welcome David. I look forward to hearing more about your car, it's current status, and your aims for it. There are a number of members on this forum who live around Melbourne at least, if not Mornington.

Hi Dalton,

Thanks for the welcome. The GT40 should arrive sometime next week, whereupon I will spend a day looking at it and then plan my attack. Hope to build a road car but keeping it true to its origins. Looks like I will be busy for some time to come. I will post my progress and I am sure I will need a lot of help along the way.

Welcome David
Good luck with your DRB, looks like you have yourself a fine project!
There is a large GT40 community in Melbourne and we do get together from time to time for a run, so keep a look out on the forum for any announcements as you would be most welcome.

Thank you all for the welcome. I have done some research on my DRB and found that it is was built when the company was owned by Denis Bedford and the company was called DHB Enterprises. According to Peter Ransom at DRB it is chassis no:12, which makes it around 13 years old!

I am, nevertheless, pleased with my purchase, and somewhat overwhelmed by the complexity of the exercise, so I am putting a lot of effort into planning things before I actually touch anything.

I may even start a build thread, it seems like a great way to communicate with everyone.

Doh , I was bidding for that car on ebay....I won the auction but it did not make reserve. Congrats on the purchase ,it seemed like a bargain to me.
DRB's go togethor easily and are enjoyable to build...good choice.
I've built a couple of DRB'S and am on my third right now so if I can help let me know.

Dvid,
Welcome to the forum. I have DRB#5 so I know what you will be going through. Hope you are able to complete it sooner than it has taken me. You will really enjoy this car. It is one of the strongest built GT-40 there is. Welded panels give it the strenght it needs. Spend some time on the Build Logs section and there should be plenty of information on the DRBs and what is needed to complete your build. Here is mine.

My build went a little different than most as I wanted to build the car the way I wanted, rather than a clone of the originals. There were too many things that didn't apeal to me. The seats for one. Don't shy away from building the car for what you want from it, whether it be for track or for the show circuit or just the general enjoyment. There are lots of parts that are available from the bone yard to supplyers, no matter how you go. Just take your time and get it the way you want.
I contact Dennis occasionaly, and he is still a good source of information. I am glad to help out if you have a need. Use the search function and use different search terms to get all the info you could possibly need.
Again welcome to the forum.

Thank you all once again for your welcome. I have finally got around to starting work on #12 and I hope to start a build thread next week, as this seems like a great way to communicate.

At the moment I am planning a 302 with Webers and G50. Won't be able to get it registered but I enjoy track days and club days and you never know, I might actually live long enough to enjoy it if I pull my finger out and get on with it.

David,
Us old farts have to take our time with these things, as there are a lot of things that tend to get in the way. Just don't put things off for too long or it will take longer than you anticipate.
