While I do find your post amusing, I have to wonder...

Why is it that "only" the Government and it's agencies would require the use of automatic weapons and explosives...all used by members selected from the population...yet that same pool those people are drawn from, are considered suspect if they want those same tools for themselves? That is what a weapon is after all...a tool.

You cannot tell me that the majority of the population...young, old, male, female, white, black, etc...are law-breaking miscreants bent on death and destruction.

So why the discrimination in who gets to use these fancy (and potentially dangerous, in the wrong hands) toys? You can't tell me that all members of the military and law enforcement are above the same failings as the rest of us.

You know it's about power and control. A person without the right to arm and defend themselves (or even, God forbid, overthrow a government they find no longer serves their interests) is fodder for the forces that would use those same weapons against them.

Do you honestly think the next fascist movement will look as obvious as the Brown Shirts or Storm Troopers?

That is what is so disturbing about comments like these...our country is making parallel moves to what we have already seen unfold in history...and yet, people refuse to believe it or stop it as it's happening. It's discounted as paranoia, rather than seeing the writing on the wall.

Lets hope it's not your family and neighbors lined up against a wall on some cold, early morning by these future Jackboots.

I didn't mean to give the impression that serving in the military is the only way to serve your country. It is however, one of the few ways to actually defend liberty and freedom. No tax collector or accountant has ever turned the tide in an armed confrontation.

War is diplomacy by other means. Whether it is poorly conceived or not, it is another tool used by the same "pinheads" that were elected to construct and implement policy. STOP VOTING THE BASTARDS IN!!!

I am most definitely NOT ok with the military excursions that have been foisted on myself and my brothers-in-arms. I have served in Somalia, Bosnia, Haiti, Afghanistan and Iraq. My brother was KIA in Fallujah. But as a soldier, I have the choice of obeying ALL of the oath I swore or serving time in a federal penitentiary as a criminal. If YOU don't like where they are sending US, stop putting that choice in the hands of the corrupt career-politicians who use us as pawns in their global chess game. I am surprised that service members are even allowed to vote, as we are not allowed to express any political opinions without suffering the consequences.

I completely AGREE with the draft being an undue infringement on individual rights and being sexist as well as discriminatory (in that one either does what Big Brother demands, or is labeled a criminal).

However, our voluntary army has not elicited the needed support from all class-members of the society it represents. An overwhelming majority of service members are from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds. If anyone thinks they deserve protection by the military, but should be exempt from it's service, they do not deserve protection. That is an act of hypocrisy, that wears against the very concept of equality and justice.

There is no way around this quandary. You either must defend others or defend yourself. My life is as valuable as anyone elses. My blood should never be shed in vain or as a substitute for those who would never suffer their own losses. That is NOT what makes a country UNITED.

There are 2 implications in that statement that I find totally objectionable. One is that the only way to serve your country is in the military. I did, but feel there are other uses of our young besides fodder in some poorly conceived agressive act. Secondly, that every military excursion by the same pinhead leaders that are orchestrating the current mess are somehow O.K. with you. We don't have the draft again, however they are getting it all lubed up for use. WW2 showed us we could divert attention away from economic problems by waving the flag of patriotism...even if we facilitated the mess. If I was 18 again, I'd boycott selective service because it is a sexually discriminating law. Only young men have to register. If they don't it is a felony. I guess the best way to circumvent any needed changes in this country is to kill or criminalize those that may be able to get it done. I blame all the kiss a$$ members of my generation for becoming exactly what they fought against.

Wyld there is no point in going any further as some on here only like to post thoughts without thinking!!! Notice how the OP has never addressed any of the information posted in retorte to his original statement (goes to show how uninformed and blinded some are) but yet responds to most of the other rubbish posted. Trust me at this point the amount of evedence stacked against this admin is enough to just sit back and watch all of these misguided people scramble to find ANYTHING POSITIVE that they can call thier own (let me know when that happens). You should stop beliving the polls you hear on Fox. Gallup shows that as of today, President Obama has a 50% approval rating with 42% disapproval.

Am I to belive that 50% of Americans approve of a socalist president or did the poll you quoted have an agenda, and only polled the the people who watch Fox.

Those are the sort of numbers that will get you re-elected.

Everyone's whining over what? Taxes increases to levels we have seen before, gun laws that don't seem to materialize, boogy men coming in from every border. None of that is gfoing to kill ya. Stress, cancer or some soccer mom texting while driving are going to kill ya.

I will bet that in 10 years I will still have my possessions (including my guns if I want them), my healthcare, and my money. Still people will be whining about something.

Actually, what caused the depression following the crash of '29 were the protectionist policies instituted by the government.

As for GM, don't forget the Obama gift to the UAW. Why do you think the autoworkers were cheering? They finally have a real stake in the company...maybe the quality of work will improve?

Funny how the unions were loath to budge at all on compensation until they owned the company...Correct me if I'm wrong, but new heirs don't get anything like the compensation package the "owners" get. Funny how it always works out that way.

In other words, it's as much about psychology, and the perception of truthfulness with regard to representations being made to investors as to their investments, as it is the reality of the condition of those investments.

Confidence in the markets, and the truthfulness of representations being made by those taking in investor dollars are at the core of a properly functioning financial market. If it became clear that public companies financials could not be relied upon to be accurate, or that those brokers and fund managers we sometimes trust to make investment choices for us were/are lying to us (Bernie Madoff) then the whole foundation for modern Big Business crumbles, and we all crumble with it.

It's great to see GM pay back a portion of the loaned funds. As others have pointed out, it's only a portion. Of course, the GM PR machine is painting it as a complete vindication....which is a stretch considering a) tax payers still own a good chunk of the company, and b) GM would have never been able to get financing from non-governmental sources on anywhere near similar terms and thus would have likely gone out of business w/o this gov't prop up.

It probably wouldn't have been so bad if GM "had" paid off some of their loans. The problem is that they paid off their "government loans +interest" not with their profits, but with TARP funds. Its a sham.

I guess that tells you how well the markets are functioning. They are trying to create confidence with lies and taking your money to boot. Next time you see that CEO swaggering about and telling you how well they are doing, should send shivers down your spine. Let's see, it has been how many YEARS they have been touting their electric vehicle(the Volt) that has yet do do one mile of the production line..... Yet NISSAN puts one out without as much as a fan fare.

I think what you are saying is correct. It just ain't working that way. Chicago style politics don't allow for it. Those in power just do what they want without the first consideration of what the consequences will be as long as they wind up on top or get their pay. Everyone should be buying Fords and saying to hell with the rest of the corrupt corporations. Let them fail as a lesson to all that survive.
