SLC 001 Build

OK, Brother "Big Tire" Billy D .... here you go!....
Does not look as killer as your 40 from the back and I don't have any good body on pictures yet either. BTW: I intended to post a pic I took of my tire sitting next to your car but I don't have it in this computer.

Those rims and tires are HUGE! Hopefully those "uber tires" won't twist your half-shafts! I know your Ricardo can take it.....

What size are those tires?

Some pictures with fenders in primer, they were still a bit rough at the time to have primer on but I needed them all one color to check that they looked the same. The one side does not have the original duct filled in yet. New ducting will be made to fit the new size openings in the panels in the future.

J - Old F1 tires - right ! A Can-am look was actually the goal. Most Can-am rims were in the 17 inch wide area (as were F1 rims) with the 917-30KL up to 21 inches if I have my facts correct.

Leon - The rims are 16W x 20D and the tires measure 15.5W x 28.5D

I am close to pulling molds off these plugs and have newer pics to post....its just that my system and this site don't get along all that well when it come to posting pictures.

John, Rob Mesa is busy making molds so I'll answer for him.
Yes, Mickey Thompson's. I'm anxious to learn how these work out as well.

Yes MT - the official on tire indications are 29x18x20 but they don't quite measure up to that in actual scrutiny. One of the benifits as well as one of the detractions of this tire in my mind is that they are only rated to 130mph....so at least there will be SOME chance that when the little kid in me gets the best of me I will not go DIRECTLY to jail.

I'll let you know how they handle, the plan for the track is LMP1 size slick rubber on 18 inch rims to handle the serious go fast stuff.

Are those also 28.5" tall and as wide as the MT's or a few inches shorter and skinnier like other (not as wide) 18" options such as 345/30/18's?

The slicks measure out about the same 28.5 except for the width, LMP1 tires are about 14 inches wide and are spec'd out to fit "skinny" 14.5 inch wide rims. The NASCAR supported Daytona Prototypes wear 28.5 dia rears for sure on a 12.5 width

Hey Rob .....your right about Can-am tire size, the Mclarens got up to 17" and I read in Pete Lyons book that Jim Halls "Sucker" car ran 20'' on the rear and in the video "Speed Odessy" the 917/30 is there with the body work off and the gap between the rear tires isn't much bigger than the tires!! A problem in those early tires with such size and tall side walls was Side flex and bad "tire shake" under power, this was curred by the end of 1971. Cheers Leon

Testing a new route to upload pics..

Pics look the same but believe me there is a bunch of detail progress since the last set, these show the plugs pretty much ready for fiberglass to be laid on for the molds.
