I went to the classic car show and popped into Tornado on the Saturday morning, courtesy of Andy (he opened up as I was in the area). Took a good hard look at the Tornado, then joined the GT40's club, met some members and then popped down to southern. Also been doing my homework on engines and gearbox's and the like to see which overall combination fits by requirements. so to answer your question, jury's still out. Southern more expensive but much closer logistically for me, Tornado, probably more to my spec requirements.
I plan to build over 3 years, I used to race FF1600 and love thoroughbred cars, no idea why I have this in my heart to do - bucket list I suppose - I just want to do it right !

Hi Paul,
Not been on the forum for a while, nice job so far keep up the good work.

Totally understand. For me, proximity to SGT is a really big factor. I just need to get some money together now!!!

Well progress has been slow of late but I have got a bit done:

Fitted some fibreglass panels each side of the dash to seal the fuel pipes from the cabin (IVA requirement) absolute sod to get them them fitted and involved lots of swearing but got there in the end. Into these I have mounted access panels and the fuse board.

Spent ages on these parts and then realised they will never be seen when the dash is in  but I know they look nice...

Also got the steering column fitted including FIA quick release boss (just like a real racing car) which in turn has allowed me to start to position the peddle box, I think it is about right now, trying to get it as far to the right as possible to straighten up the driving position.

Once the peddle box is in it will be time to start wiring and plumbing, should be fun!

Paul, lovely panelling work mate and interesting photos of an area we don't often see much of. One question: how will you treat that rather sharp looking corner in the drivers footwell that looks like it would coincide with your throttle leg mid calf and looks potentially painful (well if you had my legs it would be:) )

I suppose it would be impossible for a large radius to be put on the panel, so my question is; is it potentially close to your leg, and if so, how will you ameliorate any potential discomfort?

Edit: actually looking at the photo view from the driving seat, it appears not to be an issue. Shoulda looked closer first time......

Hi Paul,
Excellent progress, it will soon be on the road. Regarding the positioning of your fuse box, you might want to re-consider the access to it. It looks OK now, but once the dash is fitted and the face vent air duct runs over the front of them, trying to change a fuse on the side of the road could be a bit challenging. You will also have to a ensure a tight seal seal around the harness to prevent any fumes entering the cabin area.

I mounted mine on the front panel, which gives clear access and the harness then runs on the inside of the chassis
Regards,
Andy

Cheers Andy, Dave also pointed this out on my PH thread and after a visit to SGT I can reassure you all I have made a great big cock up and indeed it will not work where it is:furious: Looks like I have a bit more work to do, and it looked so good too....

I will prob be fitting carpets for IVA as the edge of the sill panel will certainly fail as it is.

Tedious...I feel for you.

Well progress has been very slow of late as had a lot on at home but I thought I would post a small up date...

Got the pedal box in its final position and bolted in place

I was struggling to fit the wiper motor as since the chassis was designed IVA decided the fuel pipes had to be enclosed, This was got over by mounting the fibre glass panels (where I mounted my fuse board) to seal them off but that also took up the mounting place for the wiper motor so a bit of adaption was required and a new mounting plate welded in.

Managed to pick up a Moroso sump and a Performer RPM intake manifold too, a bit grubby but after 20mins of bead blasting it came up quite well.

And last night I stated to put the front panels back in and enclose the pedal box. I have decided to move the fuse box and relays under the bonnet too, they will be going on the right hand side with the washer bottle mounted between them and the pedal box, I have had to order some new bits to make this work relay and fuse holders etc as I want the wires hidden behind the dash which hopefully should keep everything accessable as well as looking look clean and tidy too, I may even get a nice alloy washer bottle..

Unsure whether to fit the angle trims I made around the pedal box or not, sometimes I like them and sometimes not????

I like them round the peadal box Paul - nice monkey BTW

What do you plan to do with the area next to the pedal box? I am going to try and make (or get someone to make a custom box), so I can take in and out for tools/small luggage etc

Hi paul, question about the foot well on #126 the 6th picture. The seat to pedal position looks like your leg would hit the alloy panel when you press the gas pedal. Is that the correct way to look at it. Nice work for sure though. Brian

Thanks all, Brett I will pass your regards onto Monkey I'm sure it will cheer him up as he's been looking a little deflated lately ;o)

With regard the pedal position it's fine when seated in it and is a good as I could get it between space for the pedal and pedal offset, a lot of time went into deciding this...

Hi Paul, sorry for not answering you pm , I have not been on the forum for ages.
My car is at Sgt for a few days more having a turkey tray fitted and a few bits done.
You can pop in and have a look at some of what I did, it all works well.
Looks like your progressing well. If you have any questions your best to e mail me at work and I can answer them that day.
Let me know and I'll give you my email address
Looking good though ,keep it up
Regards keith
