Rossi put in some pretty good times. The article below compares his times with Kimi's but remember Kimi's time was set on grooved tires Rossi was on slicks.

ROME (AFP) - Moto GP champion Valentino Rossi admitted he was delighted after setting a stunning lap time of 1min 21.900sec during testing at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on Thursday.
Rossi was taking part in his second day of testing with the Ferrari F2008, the same car with which 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen set the circuit's lap record in 2008.
That was a time of 1:21.670, just over a couple of tenths faster than Rossi's penultimate lap.
"We kept the last three quarters of an hour to try a 'time attack' with little petrol and fresh tyres," said 30-year-old Rossi, who added he had enjoyed himself even more than during his last test with Ferrari at Mugello in November 2008.
"It's more effort in Mugello but this track here is really wonderful, with motorbikes and cars."
Rossi spun twice at the turn during wet conditions on Wednesday and although the weather was not ideal to begin with on Thursday he still managed to complete 600km over the two days.

It would be great for all if Rossi did jump to F1. Moto GP riders would breathe a sigh of relief and F1 would get a real character to follow for once. Mind you they would need to expand the grid so he could race with 46 on the car......

26 January 2010 | 8:16pm

The subs’ bench for Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso will be an all-Australasian affair for 2010, as the two teams confirm their reserve drivers: Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo and New Zealand’s Brendon Hartley. The two drivers, who are both members of the Red Bull Junior Team, will alternate the reserve driver duties on a race by race basis.
Daniel is the reigning champion of the British Formula 3 series. A native of Perth, the 20-year-old made a name for himself when his racing career bought him to Europe. After competing in Formula Renault Italy in 2007, he moved to Formula Renault West European Cup in 2008 and won the title, by taking ten pole positions and eight victories. He moved up a class in 2009 to the British Formula 3 Championship, where six wins and several points-scoring finishes saw him wrap up the Championship with two races to spare.
Ricciardo’s team-mate Brendon (20) hails from Palmerston North in New Zealand. After impressing in Formula Ford and the Toyota Racing Series on home turf, Brendon also moved to Europe to progress his career. In 2006 he contested the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup before winning the Eurocup title with a round to spare in 2007. In 2008 he moved to the British Formula Three Championship where he finished third, before moving to the F3 Euro Series last year. A recent highlight for the two drivers was taking part in the 2009 end of season F1 test in Jerez. Brendon was at the wheel of the TR4 for Scuderia Toro Rosso, while Daniel drove the RB5 for Red Bull Racing for all three days. After an impressive test, Daniel topped the time-sheets. Both drivers displayed good pace and offered useful feedback which aided the teams in their work ahead of the 2010 season. While the position of reserve driver can sometimes be seen as one of the less active roles at the track, the position is far from ceremonial. Daniel and Brendon will sit-in on the briefings and debriefs, attend driver meetings and familiarise themselves with the everyday workings of the garage and pit-wall. They will also fulfil marketing commitments for the teams.

Potentially, this F1 season could be a great year. How many World Champions do we have in it. 4, 5? Everyone will be watching MS and others will be rubbing their hands to compete against him. Vettel for sure, Alonso, Hamilton, Button. I admit I can't wait. As for Bernie, is it God's way of having a laugh? To put an ego the size he has in a body the size he has. It must give him fits.

I think the only thing Bernie worries about is the size of his bank balance.

Wow! That is a loooong car! Must be like driving a school bus.

All due to the much larger fuel tanks, I read somewhere...

Virgin Racing, one of four new entrants to the Formula One grid for 2010, will reveal their first car next week. The VR-01 will be unveiled online on the morning of Wednesday 3 February.

It is expected to make its official test debut at the year’s second pre-season session, which begins at the Spanish circuit of Jerez on 10 February.

The Ferrari sounds horrible at idle and what is that pole thing doing on the airbox? Are they going for pole dancers?

Well it would have been interesting - a nice video from Valencia testing but Bernie shut it off halfway through me posting it!

Well, we knew that Bernie had his tentacles into practically everything do do with F1, but scanning YouTube for anyone with the temerity to be interested in F1 testing takes the biscuit. What next - a licence from Bernie to just discuss F1 amongst ourselves?
