He'll be about .5 sec better than the car he gets, made up from skill, bloody mindednest and brinkmanship. MS is beatable and can chuck his toys out if he doesn't like what's happening. Same with Senna whose somewhat petulant and childish responses marred his greatness as a driver.

We have a new generation of "Minimes" and "Wannabes" now and they have been schooled almost since birth - to win. MS might find himself under a lot of pressure.

I also predict that McLaren will have to endure a mysterious lack of grunt problem if they get too feisty...

Predictions anyone?

Fat Bastard probably "sentence" reduced to 10 years?

Pat - well I'm not sure what he got to start with. It would be good to get him back, but who would employ him? - probably loads.. :)

Pat Symonds was originally offered immunity in exchange for full co-operation which was then rescinded and replaced with a five year suspension from any thing sanctioned by the F.I.A.
If the five year ban is overturned, I think plenty of teams would jump at employing him.
Don't forget he was a big mate of Ross Brawn around the time when Benetton became Renault.

As for Briatore, money speaks volumes.

Pat Symonds ban quashed so look out for him on the F1 pit wall this year....

Yippee, nice bloke and at least he came clean, I know it will never ever happen again.. :)

Not So Good News. Fat Bastard's ban also quashed..

Don't pop the cork just yet.

FIA consider appeal against Briatore ruling
(UKPA) – 12 hours ago
The FIA are considering appealing against a French court's decision to order the overturning of a lifetime ban from motorsport the governing body had imposed against Flavio Briatore.
Former Renault team boss Briatore was rejoicing after the Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris announced their verdict on Tuesday.
However, the FIA are currently assessing their options, notably into strengthening their own statutes that have been called into question by the TGI.
In their ruling the TGI made clear the FIA did not have the power to suspend Briatore and Pat Symonds for their roles in the infamous 'crashgate' scandal surrounding the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix as they were not licensed to compete.
Symonds, Renault's former director of engineering, was suspended for five years by the FIA, but that has also effectively been quashed.
Under FIA rules only licence holders - teams and drivers - and national sporting authorities can be sanctioned, but not what are deemed as third parties, such as Briatore and Symonds.
In response to the TGI's judgement, a FIA statement read: "The FIA notes the decision of the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Paris in relation to Mr Briatore and Mr Symonds.
"The Court has rejected the claims for damages made by Mr Briatore and Mr Symonds and their claim for an annulment of the FIA's decision.
"In particular, the court did not examine the facts and has not reversed the FIA's finding that both Briatore and Symonds conspired to cause an intentional crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
"However, the court did question the FIA's authority to impose bans upon Mr Briatore and Mr Symonds for procedural reasons and because they are not FIA licence holders and, according to the court, are therefore not subject to any FIA rules. The FIA's ability to exclude those who intentionally put others' lives at risk has never before been put into doubt and the FIA is carefully considering its appeal options on this point."

Fat Bastard has got himself a wee bit confused this morning, probably because he was a bit "over refreshed".

"This decision (by the French court) proves I had no involvement in the affair and no knowledge of it"

Either he is senile, stupid or both, or thinks WE'RE stupid which is a whole lot worse.

Either way, I wouldn't even put him in charge of slot car racing, let alone the real grown up stuff.

I am having a hard time understanding the hate I see for old Flavio,

I think he has done very well not only for himself but also the teams he works for. Two+ champs at Benaton and 2+ champs at Renault. Lots of big $$ and lots of babes.

As far as "crash gate" goes first off it worked, his team got a win. If you think this sort of thing does not go on all the time you are mistaken. Just think Prost, Senna, Schumi-Hill, Schumi-Vellenuve, Schumi Monaco Qualifying and most of these envolved more than just crashing your own car, most of these were crashes envolving other cars.

Sir Stirling said it was the "worst thing I can remember in racing" Stirling, I love ya but your memory must be going. I think you should remember several people burning to death....!!!

There are many instances of people cheating that did not work (Tyrell, Honda, Toyota...). At least Favio won.

Give him a break, he is one colorful dude and brings much to the sport.

"Hate" is a very strong word my friend and I am not capable of it.Hate no, despise, yes.

There is a huge difference between drivers arbitary decisions on a race track and a structured carefully planned cheat at the highest level and the arrogance of the man is demonstrated by his continued denial of wrongdoing despite at least 2 sworn testimonies to the contrary.

His stupidity is illustrated by involving Nelson Piquet Jnr in such a plot and thinking he was going to keep quiet even after he got fired out of hand! Not only that, despite his (FB's) experience he failed to predict that Nelson Picquet Snr, a man NOT noted for his empathy for others and blessed with a fiery South American style temperament, would go for the jugular once his son was so brutally scorned.

A nest of vipers..

Remember also that they were in possession of similar Ferrari IP along with McLaren. I suppose FB's money and influence saved them (Renault) then. McLaren copped a huge fine.

Colourful character maybe - dinosaur yes - role model - never.

Italians are honourable people and this man has let them down.

I repeat Jim, there is no person on this planet I hate - hate is very positive and quite passionate emotion and I can't think of any living person I would give that much energy to.

How many potential racegoers are not going to be at Silverstone

It;s the same weekend as Le Mans Classic - my opinion the Classic will be the better event
