We get the BBC coverage of the race, which I agree is excellent, but prior to and after we get Australian talking heads who are as booring as watching Boycott bat used to be.

Hah... I LOVE Cricket, and can't wait for the Ashes, however, you are bang on about Boycott... He left more balls than Freddie Mercury didn't, and that is something :)

On the other hand, I love his acerbic moaning on Test Match Special over here...

I would guess that the TV feed is a world video feed and a country audio broadcast live from the host race track. Or, do we all listen to David Hobbs and associates on SPEED? Great video. I guess it goes with the Bernie E. traveling road show as the camera and helicopters look the same from race to race..except in France. Am I close?

Generally, the station that holds the live F1 franchise in the host country supplies the feeds which is why much focus is placed on the local drivers as the station broadcasting in your own country does not have much say in what airs. The US system may well be different because you have much more pay-per-view on sports than we do, so it's possible your networks can do different deals, for example, with Bernie's own digital TV set-up.

Allied to that, many more stations can air their own content on a delayed basis so it's never really clear cut. I do agree with previous posters that the quality of the BBC F1 delivery far exceeds previous offerings, but I do have to grind my teeth at DC and the Irish gnome sometimes... :)

Keith, I agree.. Initially I thought DC was actually Kryten from Red Dward, but now I actually think that he truly IS a robot. Hardly the sort of chap that one would want to get drunk with, as his sense of humor seems somewhat rudimentary...

Well I have had several drinks with D.C. and can tell you he is a bloody nice bloke.

Could it be beer goggles Pete? :)

Tim.

No Tim, Lol I met him in Monaco at his pub, through a mutual friend another Scot. It was his last year racing and this was the Thursday before the race.
He graciously spent about three quarters of an hour with a bunch of us.
We were drinking, he wasn't.

I think that DC is getting better and better at the job as he relaxes into the role of commentator and pundit. He also currently writes a good weekly column in the Daily Telegraph. Not sure about EJ though.

Perhaps DC has a spare head for BBC F1 :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Oh, stoppit, stoppit NOW!:drunk::drunk::drunk:

He (DC ) is a nice chap and very unassuming. Despite having worked for Big Ron he kept a sense of humour. He has a large repertoire of lewd jokes as well which only seemed to come out in the back of the race truck while he was getting his physio done before each session.

No-one said he wasn't NICE chaps.. just that he seems a little awkward at times. When not being addressed he adopts a 5 mile stare. I think he probably doesn't like Jordan very much.

Anyway, don't nice guys finish last?

Plus, I will never forget he looped his Williams on the sighting lap (behind pace car? Not sure) whilst on pole.

I do believe he is the only F1 driver ever to do that although I believe Ollie Gavin achieved a 360 in the Merc pace car once.

+ there's no doubt DC attended the Roger Moore school of acting...

Not necessarily Pete - think about a lot less reliance on aero and more on mechanical grip (although ground effect is a kind of aero) so away with these ludicrous front wings - and the turbo's whilst they would make initially less power, that wouldn't be for long, and with a KERS type system you end up with a far more technical (interesting) package.

I have a feeling though that it's primarily designed to lure the car manufacturers back in as the chassis would not be the huge technical challenge it is now = better competition.

Keith,

I'm afraid you are right, there seems to be some hills around, but do they use the hills? Noooooooooooooooo.

Flat and boring, a snoozer!
