How long have you owned a car?

How long have you owned a car???

Mr. Allen Swift (Springfield, MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in1928.
He drove it up until his death last year.....at the age of 102 !!! He was the oldest living owner of a car from new. Just thought you'd like to see it.
He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death.
It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years)

Wow, impressive.

Who gets a new rolls royce as a school graduation gift???

I find it entertaining to tell my (75 year old) father that I think Old Timers should have their licenses automatically pulled at age 80 due to their rapidly advancing physical limitations. That really gets his goat.

Wow. Perhaps there is some truth to the stat about rich people living longer and healthier!

Strangely enough, my CAV is the car I have owned the longest. 6 years.

Even more rare, it is a US built "Springfield Rolls" purchased in the town where it was made!

Many do not know that RR built cars in the USA for a few years....

I drove my Kirkham and 2004 F350 for 4 years. We sure are into multiple gratifications. I think I'll keep the SLC and 1969 Landcruiser I'm building for a while.

Geez, That's only 14 years from now. Nah , I'm going to be driving quickly for quite a while!

Does it count that I paid for my 40 chassis 23 years ago, and received it 15 years ago? Certainly the longest I've owned a 'car'.

I,ve owned my MGB for 25 years. It was my first car. Now a V8 and looking very different, but it seems part of me now and will probably stay with me if I can afford to keep it AND the GT40.

Hi All

I purchased a Honda CB750 - 4 when they were first released in 1975 which I still have today and also a 1934 Chev 4 door sedan which was purchased in 1975 for $25 and was turned into a street rod and registered in 1979 and I still own that also today as well as the 40.

A man must have his toys!!

Great story. I Have a hunch forum member Steamer Bill has worked on that RR, as it's in his
neck of the woods...

I have owned my 1967 Corvette for 26 yrs now. Paid 10K and thought I had made an error. That was a lot of quid to a 23 yr old back in '84. Glad I hung on to it!

I have owned my Lamborghini LP400s Countach for 20 years, Mike Trusty has had his 72 Pantera since new. I think Kirby has had his Pantera over 20 years.

Rolls Royce for graduation......His father must have been a politician.

You have to hand it to the old guy. He knew what was great and didn't give the car up when I am sure he was tempted by younger things! I only hope to live that long if I can still get around. Good on him.

Interesting timing - my 1995 Jetta which I bought in 1997 is being picked up in a matter of hours. We're donating it to the Oregon Humane Society. - just over 200k. That makes 13 1/2 years for me on one car. Of course, our 1973 BMW 2002 is starting its 13th year of ownership and I don't plan on getting rid of it. My first car - a 1976 BMW 2002 I got rid of after 12 years - when I bought the Jetta! Yeah, I drive 'em into the ground....
