It is difficult to say how far I'm away from starting. I am aiming at say March 2013. Of course that would be rolling chassis excluding body. We'll see.
 
Megasquirt don`t do Direct injection, there are a couple of companies I have found over here, one was stupid money, and the other more resaonable Specialist Components You will need to speak to them via phone or send an e-mail as not all the products are listed on the website.
I plan to use them for my Direct Injection Porsche motor, they said they`ll use existing sensors, make a loom, ecu etc and the quote was circa £4k, it would have to be set up on a dyno (extra £)
I tried Motec, emerald, and a whole host of others but they all seem to say they are either working on system or don`t plan to.

Holy sh*t.... £4k is what my engine kinda cost.... Out of the question for me. I hope Dynotech Cape Town can decode my ecu otherwise it is fuel rails, injectors, manifold and aftermarket ecu....

I did send them an email for pricing though. Thanx for the link mate.

You will find the piston design is way different to a port direction motor, if anything like my Porsche engine and it may be that if you port inject a direct injection engine, it may cause problems, I've not heard of anyone going down that route. I know what you mean re price! I paid 4k for engine and trans, the first quote I had from the other company was 7k, they wanted to use all new sensors etc!!!!!!!!
Anyway if a jobs worth doing, it should be done properly!!!!

Kronenburg apparently does a bolt on kit with manifold, injectors etc. etc and with their ecu. for the rs4 & rs6. They claim a gain of 80 bhp ontop of the 420, so will end up with 500 bhp. The fsi is blanked off. I guess that will cost a small farm as well though. Will wait and see. Kronenburg does the Ultimas with these packages. Quite a nice youtube clip of an Ultima with a rs6 bi turbo with this kit on, running on a dyno.

Sounds like you have it sorted then, esp if someone has already done a conversion already, should go well with 500 gee gees!

lol. Well not quite sorted. Will have to look at the price. I have made figures in my head what it might be and which I won't be able to afford.... except if I run some or other no name brand Chinese suspension and 1pod caliper brakes :)

That was a major reason behind me discounting the (modern) Audi engines. I'm certain you could get it working by taking the entire loom, everything electrical pretty much and working out what was needed, fooling the rest and keeping the essential until you had it running but that pretty much means starting with an entire car and a lot of work (how good are you at programming) plus how much is an RS4 still?

To put that EUR7k into perspective I'm currently on budget for going ITB (motorcycle throttle bodies) with aftermarket ECU for £1k, even if I went with a custom set of ITB's it would still only be £2.5k...

I have no experience with programming or mapping. Furthermore I found out that I should have 2 ECU's, I have one...... The 2 units look identical but the master ecu is fuel management, spark etc. wheteas the slave ECU does airbags, variable valve timing, knock sensors. I don't know which I have but I know I short one. I contacted the shop where I bought the engine and they said they would look for it but I haven't much faith in that. The ecu I do have is at a programmer currently so Should know if it is the master or slave shortly. If I have master, hopefully an aftermarket one could be used instead of the slave.

That`s the problem, all this modern CANBUS direct injection stuff is going to cost to put it in our cars. It was the first thing I looked at when I bought my engine/trans.
But to be realistic, using my engine as an example, 4k for engine and trans and 4k for ecu/loom etc, so 340bhp for 8k, it sounds a lot but if you had a 340bhp Hart race engine done for you by a builder it`d be double/treble that!, hell I know people who were spending 10k on a 1293 Mini Miglia engine/dogbox 145bhp max!!!
So your 500bhp for circa 10k Euros is cheap hp, state of the art engine using the latest tech that you can thrash the pants off, safe in the knowledge that it won`t put a rod out or something daft like that!
The other thing to think about is by the time you have your car done the price of this sort of kit will hopefully come down.

I get what you are saying and don't get me wrong I would love to have as much BHP as what the gearbox can handle! :) but and there is always a 'but'. Looking at what my brakes, suspension, instruments, rims, tyres, interior etc etc. will cost, then that 7k spent on the Van Kronenburg setup would of come in handy. I'll be the bigger man here and admit that if I knew what I know now I would not of bought the rs4 engine. I could of bought a Chevy Lumina 6.0 V8 (500HP) for the same price as the rs4 and would of had none of these problems.

Now though I'm stuck with it. So I have to find a way around the problems and I'm sure once I have done that I will be in a happier place again! I think Van Kroneburg is out though. In Rands that is R70 000.00 ..... It is just too rich for my blood. I spoke to another chap who reckons that I should be able to use standard 4.2 litre manifold, have fuel rails built here, get injectors, aftermarket ecu etc locally and should get away with it for R30 000.00. That is another obtion to look at I guess.

got the other ecu! thank you auto salvage and Cornelius! also great news. got a guy who says he can program the ecu's and remap so absolutely no problems! all unecessary sensors will be bypassed, restriction will be removed, extra 30kw will be gained....... after a week with mostly lows, I'm going to have a stiff one.... double Bells on the rocks is in order!

Took both ECU's to Wulfteknik. I have been assured that there won't be a problem. They will be decoded, coded key will be cancelled, and will be programmed so that I can do a start up. They will do a full setup at a later stage. So anyone with direct injection engine and you have the ECU or ECU's, contact these guys. A lesson to anyone interested in buying an RS4 engine... MAKE SURE YOU GET THE ECU'S WITH THE ENGINE!!!! It makes it a helluva lot easier! :)
 
That's good news. Hopefully they can figure it out for you, at least by the time you are ready to fire it up. That gives them at least a couple of weeks, right? :wiseguy:
