What's your Daily Driver?

All of us love GT40s or other Supercars of the same era - but let's face it - they're not really practical to drive to work, store, church or on long family trips (remember I said practical)...

Post pics if you have them...

Almost 3 years ago I finally gave up on having a hot-rod for a daily driver - particularly since the back seat was nearly non-existent and I needed to carry passengers so I traded in my Mustang GT on my first Toyota...

I went from this;

To this;

and I'm still happy with the decision almost 3 years later... Which is the longest I've ever owned a daily driver... I have other vehicles as well - but this one gets the most use and better fuel mileage...

I sold the '67 XK-E Roadster and bought a station wagon when the first of our kids was born, and station wagons is what we drove until the kids grew up and we moved to the country. Then it was pickup trucks, horse trailers, and a Ford 8N. Last year when the '98 S-10 tranny went out after 145,000 miles, I decided if not now, when?
So we bought this 71 Le Mans with a 351 and 65,000 original miles, and yes, it's our daily driver. 14 MPG and premium gas is not at all practical, and you know what? I do not care! Life is too short to settle once you turn 60.

Whichever one starts in the morning! Seriously, for the warm weather and the fall,on dry days, a Harley Davidson 100th Anniversary Super Glide. In the cool or wet weather a BMW 740i and a Ford Explorer 5.0 V8(300K) on deep snow days in the winter (AWD is most helpful in New England). I previously had Chevy Suburbans for the winter and towing,but lost the 454 to a head-on and sold the other at 350k. 10 years of commuting from Connecticut to New York takes its toll.

it was heart breaking, but i had to part with this, a 1996 Fraser 7

Three last winters it was Escort RS Cosworth 4x4 (227 bhp std), this is 9th summer run with Escort RS2000 Cabriolet.

Cossie now sold :( to get money for parts of mk1 :)

'72 Daimler Sovereign, series 1 short wheel base, with fuel injected and turbocharged 383 chev and 5 speed. Has 3:31 posi rear, uprated suspension and brakes, nice original leather and wood interior that is aging nicely, and is a real wolf in sheeps clothing. It's my daily driver and we use it as the family car for me, wife and kids whenever we are on a roadtrip.

Andrew, Ive taken a mental note of that Number Plate & will try to resist any urge to pass!! This thread is a bit of a mis-nomer for me, I am more of a week or fortnight driver. Most likely to be the Subaru wagon since if there is fuel & rego on the 300zx Donna will have disappeared with it. The XB ute & F250 are non runners & rego on hold status @ moment, & if I ever take some time away from this website I might actually get some other toys built & driveable... but then the status of my licence would probably join the rego of the two trucks/utes....:)

As you guys probably already know, 2004 Ford Lightning bought via a Ford plan that one of our members here gave me as a gift.

I've had the truck now for just shy of five years and she has 82k miles. Within a month of picking it up ran a 8.20 in the eighth at Benson with only a cone filter and +2 lbs additional boost which roughly translates into a high 12 quarter. Now runs around +6lbs of boost and should do better.

The truck is driven every day, tows my race rig to events ranging from 100 to 650 miles away. It has in dash DVD/CD/Sirius/Navigation, rear view camera (camera on trailer), and air bags to help with towing. It has never failed to start, seems to always run well, and have never been serviced for anything besides gas, oil changes, and transmission fluid change. Knock on wood.

Gas mileage is so-so. If you drive 60 mph and don't tow anything it'll get 16-17 mpg. If you drive 75 mph with no towing it'll be around 15 mpg. Towing, well, you're looking at around 9-10 mpg.

The 5.4L mod motor is definitely not one of my favorites from Ford. But it does get the job done and has been reliable. If it had a manual transmission it'd be damn near perfect. Then I'd have to sell it and start over!

Jac, having 3 months off at the moment myself for being a bit naughty on the motorway.

Cheers, Andrew

My daily driver is a HZ80J toyota landcruiser 4.2 diesel. While the missus drives our MY 01 subaru Liberty Outback. Driving boring cars like these everyday makes the GT40 alot of fun on the weekends!:thumbsup:
Cheers

I get my wife's hand me downs.

Currently a 2000 Chevy Tracker 143,000 miles to date.
Once I ware it out I will take over the wife's 2007 SS Chevy Cobalt & put the wife in a fully loaded SS Camaro approximately in 2011 or when ever I run the Tracker into the ground.

I drive a Chev. Silverado, one of Mustangs ('65-'07), or BMW motorcycles. In the basement section of the garage is a Porsche, 4.2L Audi, and '65 SP 427 Cobra for sunny Saturdays.
I'm always changing oil or working on something, so I do not know what the average gas mileage is in this lot. I thank all my neighbors who have a Prisis (sp) for saving gasoline.
