Mick at SGT tells me that the IVA is not that far away.
Fingers crossed a few weeks and it will be done, then back to me for a few days then finally to the paint shop.
Whilst this 8 weeks delay is happening I have decided to convert an Ultima Can-Am to a fixed head GTR.
Anyone interested can view the Ultima UN Build post in the wings, wheels and keels section.
As soon as the 40 is on the move again I will post more
Cheers

That's a nice red Rene but too bright for me.
Whilst waiting for the IVA test I ordered GPS speedometer from Speedhut in the USA.
It arrived today and although it's going into an Ultima I have ordered another one for the SGT 40 even though it has an IVA approved system installed. It will give 100 % accuracy and looks easy to install.
When I get the 40 back from the test and paintshop I will install it and post on forum.
SGT whilst waiting for the test date has installed one of there central locking systems.
Can't wait to get it back

Had a call today from VOSA, they wanted to make sure that I was not a manufacturer of cars as my application quite correctly says I'm a self builder.
Apparently if cars are built by manufacturers or specialist builders then the emmisions change and Catts are required.
IVA date imminent !

that makes some difference then...
so now you can get it on a "old" plate?
and otherwise when you would be a manufacturer you need the emissions test and so almost a "new" sort engine and get a plate of this date say 2012 (sorry for my poor English :)

Hi Rene,
If a manufacturer such as SGT build the car for a customer then they have to have Catts and meet better emmisions , they would then get a new registration.
They are building one at the moment just like that and Mick has made Catts to suit.
As a self builder you can have the one item not new which can be the engine block and provided it's of the correct age it will only need to comply with emmisions of the engine block age say 1970.
As all the remaining parts are new it can be registered as new.
After that you can find an age related plate and transfer it.
I beleive this to be accurate.
For IVA test Engine H.P now plays a part in the sound levels ...dba

Date for my test is 20th Sept as VOSA are busy.. they are government run so only work a couple of hours a day !

Your english is fine

Hello Keith

have been reading your entire built from yesterday and congratulate you for your work on your beast !
As a former retired Le Mans cars fabricator ingineer I can really appreciate the amount of hours you did to obtain so nice result and hope on the 20 september you will be able to pop out some good champagne !!!!
I also have apreciated all details you built on in order to be ok with your certification rules ( even they are sometime "heavy" you UK boys are very lucky to be allowed to road run your own built GT's! as you know there is locked down ...bouuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh)
Just one quick question ; when you built as you are doing very well to comply with registration as soon as you try to race with (in some club races) are you disvantaged (weight of all accessories etc etc) comparativly to others GT40 kit built with no legals fits ....
What sort of races are they ? Just fun or organised ones? are they some specific rules to equilibrate competitor ?

Keep your good work going and ; bonne chance pour le 20 septembre !:drunk:

thx for explaining Keith,
I forgot about the dba levels, most GT40 are pretty loud and mostly to loud for say a lot trackdays in the EU.
what is the dba max level for IVA test? and or are those car/engine? related.

fingers crossed for the 20th

Good luck, but you know it'll fail first time. Just hope the list is short for you.

Martin

Yep it's that peculiar game the British establishment have to play i.e. finding something to justify their jobs.

Good job we have our secret weapon, Mick and Southern GT to sort them out ;)

I would dream to have there in France such " slow" process even to have to come back twice for more detail !!
As you know it is impossible now for a private builder to homologate his own building ( asking crazy test , frame calculations etc etc ) and if they understand you were starting from a kit they stop all process asking you for the supplier to do Factory official test !!
20 years ago I had to homologate one VBM ( GT40 modern look like ) because we had an entry for Le mans and ACO was asking to have one car registred only ! It takes me 2 years work and more than 12 visits ( plus some " official help") to get all forms !!
Lucky you are mates in UK !!

Hi Keith,

I was down visiting Mick yesterday. Lots of prep work being done to your car to cover all those detailed bits that IVA inspectors like to be picky about. Here here to Nick's comment about Mick being our secret weapon!

I was very impressed with your build I must say and took the liberty of taking some photos to hlep me with mine. I hope you don't mind.

Good luck today,

Neil

IT PASSED FIRST TIME........... YIPPEEEEEEEEE.
VOSA can kiss me A . . .
Mick adjusted a few bits while they were there but a 62 Plate is in the post

Thanks to Mick and all the guys and galls.
