What is the largest engine that can fit in the SL-C?

*Without major modification. Also, are there any examples of customers doing a supercharged AND dual carburetors on top of all that?

Even if they remove/cut the rear window...is this something that is feasible, or does everyone have to go fuel injected & low profile corvette style intakes...

My supercharged LS7 fits under the rear window without any issues. It's a Harrop which I think is taller than low profile corvette style intakes. Note that if you use a Daily dry sump and the right transaxle, you can drop the engine several inches which, in addition to lowering the CG, will provide additional room above the engine compartment. My engine is at the stock height because I fabricated a 180-degree cross over exhaust that crosses under the pan.

Here are links to various supercharged builds. Many different engines and superchargers. I’m doing an Gen V LT4 build and it took a significant amount of work to fit it in the chassis. Some of the work could have been avoided if I had more experience but that is the way these projects go.

Dont forget Stehpans build log. That Murcury Marine LS7 variant is large.
 
Aside from Stephans build and the BMW V10 build, has anyone else built a twin cam v8? Stephan, as noted above found it to be a challenge to fit that engine.

Dan there was at least one Coyote SLC build that I know of and a Maserati V8 as well. Both overhead cam although not sure if they are twin cam.

Checking back in on this thread...Im pulling a couple of thousands together at a time over here, and seeing options show up online for larger engines than the LS7 / 427ci variants.

Anyone see a glaring red flag going as high as say, a 496ci? Myself and my family has a little experience with engines this large because of our history in drag boat racing in the 90's, so I am tempted to do a large displacement, naturally aspirated dual carb setup. it will likely be too tall for the body of the SL-C though.

This is also coming from the fact that I dont have a lot a actual background working with fuel injection at all. I have a conceptual understanding of how they work, and how they can be upsized and boosted to match a performance motor setup, but it feels more foreign than your classic muscle car setup.

So anyway...any ideas what Fran would say about the largest Chevy engine size that the car can take? This of course includes the oil pan dimensions, not just the topside of the engine.

Right now I am building an aluminum block Donovan, which is a racing copy of a small-block Chevy (SBC). It will be 408 cubic inches displacement: a standard 4" bore +.030" oversize and a 4" stroke. It is possible to build a SBC up to 427 CID. The SBC is a relatively compact V8 that will probably fit but Fran should be able to advise you.

I'll stick with a 427. I will likely just build it myself and go with all forged internals, get it running naturally aspirated and then decide exactly how I want to finish it.

Hoping Superlite doesnt go out of business by then :oops:
